compensation rights

In a recent thread on this forum, I discussed an issue I was having with UlsterBank which took 3 months and a few days in order credit the funds for a cheque I lodged back in October.

I finally heard from UB today saying they had finally found the funds, but somehow are unable to process any compensation on the wait, claiming the issue was not them but the end bank (CITI) that was meant to pay these funds but didn't.

As a customer, I feel as though as this is a really a big slap in the face, despite they are right, but in the last 3 months, I did a lot to bridge communication with the end institution (Morgan Stanley, who was my gateway into CITI, as they are the CITI customers).

So I am somehow feeling as though as they owe me something for all the effort, but while speaking to their complaints dept and asking about compensation, I was told straight-away no compensation was being considered.

Given they told me the cheque could take 6 weeks to lodge, and then 8 and then 8-12+ (this last one was over twitter) am I in any position to seek interest? What would my rights include?

Complete speculation but I expect your damage to be limited to interest only. Most likely an amount so small that it's hardly worth the effort of pursuing further.

Complain to the Financial Services Ombudsman.

Thanks, I agree interest would be negligible.

What could/can I get out of the FSO?

A public slap for the banks in question. You aren't going to get money

And to even get the FSO to take your complaint you will need a final response from at least one of the banks concerned.
