Looks like Gavin Cooney and Dermot Coughlan have fitted in well already according to the likes of Derrick Lynch who were reporting at the game.

The following players have yet to come back. David Tubridy, Jamie Malone, Keelan Sexton and Sean O'Donoghue. When they return Clare will be more than a match for anyone in Division 2 of the league.

Also looking forward to seeing what Cormac Murray can bring to Clare, who was scoring for fun for his club St Josephs Miltown in the last few seasons. Why wasn't he involved today though?

Would like to see Ciaran Russell involved but think he stepped away last year to work commitments.

Ciaran Russell is a good tenacious footballer, but can lose the head like when he got a needless red card against Roscommon in the league last year.

No Jamie this year by all accounts. Huge loss if so.

I thought that I heard him interviewed on Clare FM a week or two ago, saying how much he is looking forward to the league and championship campaign. If true caddy16 then it is fair to say my hopes have sunk for the Clare senior footballers for 2019.

Malone is a serious serious operator with the size 5 ball in his hand. Do you know why the Corofin man has dropped out of the panel caddy16?

Heard he was travelling this year but this was 3rd hand so maybe not 100% true

hurlers held off a late waterford challange , in truth the game was over when tommy ryan and stephen bennett hit late majors

another promising display by diarmuid ryan , aidan mccarthy shane golden and colin guilfoyle all putting there hands up for a starting place against tipperary in the league opener on the 26th of january , the teams meet next week in the final of this pre season competition first , but it almost looks like the management are keen to establish there squad for the year as early as possible , i would be surprised if we use more then 25 players in the up coming league

    Diarmuid Ryan 0-6,
    Niall Deasy 0-5 (3f),
    Tony Kelly 1-2,
    Colin Guilfoyle 1-1,
    Shane Golden 0-3,
    David Conroy 0-2,
    Ryan Taylor, 0-1
    Aidan McCarthy 0-1

was not down in waterford today buff egan was , and while i might not be his biggest fan i have huge time for anyone that records a game that i cant make myself :)

According to an interview Colm Collins made before Christmas on Clare FM, he name checked Cormac, as one of the players that will be involved with Clare after he and his club teammates Kieren Malone, Gordon Kelly and Eoin Cleary (who is currently recovering from an hand op) are back from a well deserved rest after Miltown's exploits in Clare and Munster after the Christmas break.

perfect , he must be carrying a knock at the moment so if thats the case , another lively forward , slightly worry about our size heading into the league , we seem to have a lot of small players especially in the forwards

given our record against cork of late we really should be beating them in the final this year its up on 11 years since we won the mcgrath cup this is one we need to be wining especially with no kerry or tipperary involved

Definitely agree regarding the size of our forwards windy, particularly our more younger players. But they more than make up for it with savage skill. Great to see Gavin Cooney, Gearoid Cahill and Dermot Coughlan on the score sheet for Clare today. They were top minors 2 years ago with huge skill and agility and will play a big part for Clare in 2019 and beyond.

Cork next Saturday should give us a better guide into how we are shaping up for the upcoming league campaign. Cork have the talent, but with two selectors abandoning ship before the start of the campaign, maybe this will be an opportunity for Clare to get a 3rd win in 4 matches against the rebels. If this match does take place at a Clare venue, I presume Cusack Park will be the favorite to host the game. Time will tell.

Clare senior football manager, Colm Collins has confirmed the likes of Sean O'Donoghue, Jamie Malone and David Tubridy will all return to action for the Clare senior footballers, in the McGrath Cup final against Cork next Saturday in Miltown Malbay. This according to his interview with Joe O'Muircheartaigh in the Clare People today, following Clare's 11 point win over Waterrford in Ballinacourty last Sunday. No word on Keelan Sexton though.

cian dillon has retired from intercounty hurling ,still think he could have done a job for us over the next few years in some capacity beit as a starter or from the bench , but definitely a man that owes clare hurling nothing

I see a Limerick hurler referring to us as "that Clare team that won an All Ireland but was forgotten about again" and doesn't want to be like them. No mention of the loss in Cuscack Park ;)

Unfortunately he's not wrong. It was a one off that wasn't replicated. Last year was the closest we got to the same level of performance in the later stages of that 2013 championship. Still a way to go with the current team to find the right blend.
The chances of Limerick retaining their All-Ireland aren't that far ahead of anyone else winning it.

Galway looked certain to go back to back and look what happened them. A fresher Galway may well have beaten Limerick. There is a fine line between arrogance and cockiness - he's on the other side

The 2001 Tipp team and possibly the 2010 team could also be put in that bracket

They'll have to cut the tracksuits off that Limerick team, i work with one of them and he hasn't taken it off since August.
If people thought Clare were bad in 95 and 97, they haven't seen anything yet.

Someone was asking about the Armagh v Clare venue for the round two football league tie , it has been offically fixed for newry on the 3rd of febuary ,

Not much of a netrual venue as its literally on the county Armagh border , hopfully it can act as a happy hunting ground after the footballers win up there over down last year ,

No Jamie Malone, Pearse Lillis or Cormac Murray on the subs bench for Clare, are just some of the names not on the panel for today.

Clare 1-9 Cork 0-9 FT in McGrath Cup final

St Flannans and Colaiste Mhuire of Ennis both won their respective Munster Camogie College Finals in B and D respectively.

A great day for Clare GAA!

Roll on tomorrow for the Clare senior hurlers!

didnt make it to the mcgrath cup final today but good win none the less ,

cork have gone backwards in the last number of years no thanks to there crazy county board , but in truth this was an expected win in my opinion

two pleasing aspects of today would be the fact that we were missing so many key players and that we can now beat a county like cork with squad rotation ourselves

the other would be the form of keelan sexton , first game back today and kicked 4 points , he had a very much below par year both club and county i often wondered if he was carrying a knock last year , this guy is a top half forward for this level and still only in his early 20s for a county like us its hugely important that we have him at his best for the year ahead

also fitting to see it was gordon kellys goal that decided the game , his service to clare football and miltown has been outstanding down through the years , scoring it on his local pitch makes it extra special

a huge embarrassment today however for the cork county board , a vast amount of this clare team has been worked through development squads while a county with one of the biggest picks in the country has taken its foot of the gas completely in terms of under age development

cork have always been one of the pure football counties , like mayo and kerry always very easy on the eye and always a threat at the very top of the football tree , they will be lucky to hold there division 2 status the way things are shaping up and are probably in for another long year , its a huge shame whats happening down there at the moment lets hope this 5 year plan works

    clare scorers

    Keelan Sexton 0-4
    Gordon Kelly 1-0
    Cathal O'Connor 0-2
    Gary Brennan 0-2
    Dean Ryan 0-1

100% agree with your analysis on Cork. It's worrying and there seems to be no easy fix. However you can't say the above to every Cork fan without someone from Cork saying stop being so negative etc. The county is in deep crisis mode regards football and I think its not being seen as a serious issue down in Cork. This 5 year plan is nothing until situation improves and Cork get back to top table again in football. They come out spouting about a 5 year plan before anything is done is just so annoying. Cork are facing division 3 in the face and if so they do they deserve to go down until the county board wakes up and realise Cork football is gone down the swanny. Congrats on the win today it was well deserved and nice to see new teams winning. Hope my post hasn't taken away the importance of Clares win today. Well done.

Hon the Banner. Great weekend for Clare GAA.

Very impressive win for the hurlers. Tipp had plenty of the senior stars starting and we have plenty to come back into the team.

While it is great to win these matches and any day you beat the Tipp lads is a good day. However Tipp are in a period of heavy training at the moment and will be a completely different kettle of fish come 13 days time, in the League opener against the Banner county in Thurles. Great to see Tony Kelly playing well and getting goals too. Brilliant stuff. A good start to 2019 that's for sure.
