Bitcoin may survive when the dollar collapses next year and investors are looking for a safe haven , however it will need to stabilize or trade in a range if it is to become attractive as a reserve currency .

If the dollar collapses as you say then Bitcoin may or may not be unattainable if the dollar is worthless.

Bitcoin cant survive as a speculative asset , its too volatile , but with gold could form some sort of reserve . However if there is a dollar collapse Bitcoin indeed could rocket in value but it would not be a currency and its inherent volatility would eventually scupper it .

Bitcoin will never become a reserve currency. No government will buy BitCoin because it's far too unsecure and not usuable in the same way fiat currency is.

Some of the third generation coins have potential but the cost of mining Bitoin far outweighs the benefits. Some of the newer coins like SkyCoin and some others have huge potential on paper but we're about another 10-15 years before first world governments start to explore

You're going to 'invest' in a stablecoin?

With certain stable-coins it's possible to invest in their "collateral". A token representing the collateral can increase or decrease in value

You do realise a 90% gain isn’t the same as a 90% drop???

Your chart starts in end 2017 during the mania. Many of us bought cryptos in the preceding 6 or 7 years. For example, I bought a batch of Ethereum early last year at 9 euros each. We're in a bad bear market, and it could all go to dust, but that's a 1400% return from a trade ticket just last year. I wouldn't be grave-dancing on crypto just yet (then again I'm not expecting much to happen, if at all, for the next few years)

Yeah it's 90% down when it suits them. They forget for most it's well over 1000% up.

Yeah everyone here did most of their crypto buying in 2011-12. Very few if any jumped in during January 2018.

Yup and many bought between 9 and 130. Also many sold at a profit along the way. Not all "2018 suckers"

I like the cynical posts but they do have a tendency to dry up if/when the market goes parabolic. As for the prices, could go to nothing, or Eth could be 1k next year.. who knows, it's crypto

It's interesting that the stock market has had its worst December since 1931 and crypto is ending it's December on a high and cancelling out any loss of the month.

    Any correlation? Maybe

    Coincidence? Probably

But with trump attack the federal reserve and the US economy doing with it can to not over heat there may be more money put into crypto in 2019 by people who are afraid they may lose what they already have or will want to try and make some gains.

Anyway I hope some people made money this month,I bought in mid December and nearly doubled what I put in. Let the cynics talk about it being a bounce or whatever,we can all have a drink and ring in the new year either way

    Merry Christmas everyone
