Loftus Cheek is who I would go for . Similar to Ox in ways.

Meh, we have a better version of him. We don't have anyone like MGW. As I said though, early days.

That Newcastle defence is terrible hopefully we can knock a sh1t load of goals against them to pull back the goal difference on City when we play them on Stephens day.

You don’t hear Lascelles name around these parts too often nowadays.

Such an incidental thing to wish for.

    Let's stick to wins.

At one point City had about 18 goals advantage now it's 8, amazing how quickly the gap can be closed and winning the title on GD would be perfect. :)

Ye and we know what it's like losing the title on goal difference :(

Could never understand that one, tbh.

He's grand, but not definitely not the quality you'd expect of a team that wants to challenge for titles.

He's a solid player in a woeful defence. Never really kicked on from his early potential though. Could probably do with a move to a more balanced team. Better than Matip but wouldn't be good enough ultimately.

You're off your rocker and i'm plenty old enough to have seen Hansen in his pomp. Never before have Liverpool had the best centerhalf on the planet playing for us and thats what Virgil is. Football has changed so much and its so much harder for defenders these days but he makes it look so easy. Honestly he's like if you put Hansens brain into the body of Ramos. We're blessed he's at the club and he's been the cliche bargain even at the world record fee.

    Pyjamarama wrote:
Its not even that mad to say that Allison might be the best keeper we've ever had either btw. Clemence prob still holds that title but Allison is already better than Reina ever was and he's prob the best since Ray.

    Pyjamarama wrote:
Was talking in the pub earlier about how Salah prob will move on if he keeps this form up as the lifestyle in Spain is too good to turn down but even if he did, it would be for a world record fee and would you bet against us just going out and getting another Salah anyway? Whens the last time we spent real money on a dud? People said Nabby and Fab might be but they're showing their class now. Both have been magnificent in the last few games.

You are right when you state that football has changed so much. Changed for the worse in my view. The technical ability of players has declined and the rules of the game are a complete mess but you are quite wrong to claim that the game has become more difficult for players to become successful at these days. Standards have declined to such an extent that it has become far easier for slightly better than mediocre players to be heralded as superstars. Messrs. Van Dijk and Salah and most of the other leading lights in the Premiership can be classed in this category. In time, my point of view will be proved to be correct.

I stopped reading after something about technical abilities declining...

Here's a nice piece from the Hertha Berlin coach about Marko Grujic.

    https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/liverpool-s-marko-grujic-by-far-the-best-midfielder-hertha-berlin-dardai-518902.jsp?smartformat=true%26utm_source=smartformat%26utm_medium=products%26utm_term=english%26utm_content=article
"I've been at Hertha for 22 years," said the 42-year-old at his press conference after the Frankfurt win. "This isn't meant as an insult to anyone else, but Marko is by far the best midfielder I've seen in my time at the club."

The raw data from the game certainly backs up Dardai's impression of the youngster. From his position in central midfield, Grujic did the dirty work – winning an average of 54 per cent of all challenges – while he was also helping out in other areas by completing 92 per cent of his passes and having four attempts at goal – more than any other Hertha player.

"I was a defensive midfielder and managed to score 17 goals, which isn't bad," Dardai continued. "But Marko carries much more of a goal threat, he's got a sensational shot on him and is much better than I was. He can play anywhere in midfield.

Id love to see Grujic make it at Liverpool. No real reason why, just liked the look of him.

It was nice to get Grujic to sign a new contract before he went out on loan.

If he turned out to be the DM/CM bench option and Henderson was sold to Newcastle for 20m I'd be happy enough (but I would be wouldn't I?).

    He'd never go to Newcastle.

Him and Lallana to Bournemouth thought that might happen.

As an oft much criticised cheerleader for Glen Whelan, and hence priding myself on appreciating a DMF, I am still a bit meh on Fab.

I know he's tall and gets about but he seems unable to pass a ball more than ten yards, seems to give away alot of fouls and isn't as mobile as I'd expect.

Perfectly grand and all just maybe not seeing the price tag.

Keita on the other hand, genuinely excited watching him play.

Gives away a lot of fouls but makes a lot of tackles too. Usually conceding tackles in areas where we can set up & defend which we’ve been good at to date

That's a fair turnaround compared to the numbers Ming and Karius used to put up for us.

Tuesday night is basically olympiakos all over again isn't it? Let's hope that's a good sign for us this season!

Klopp's getting sacked is he? I guess if the next manager is clueless he might sell our captain in his prime for half his market value. Luckily Klopp'll be around for a while yet. As will his best boy.

We'll have a need for another midfield body next year. Lallana will surely move on to get a last go at first team football at a high level. It'd be good to have another lad who's huge, can kick people and also show a bit of quality. A bit of a mini-midfield Van Dijk.

Still only be 23 at the start of next season. Not quite the maturity of Keita but hopefully he'll get a chance to grow into it.

No, no. Chocolate fingers, apparently. Waste of money like VVD - there's a song, you know!

Possibly the best video on youtube. Multi-angles of Origi's winner vs Everton. Van Dijk's reaction? Check. Salah's reaction on the bench? Check. Klopp & Becker? Check. Beautiful.

I don't know if the articles and the journalists reporting them are racist, but the headlines on the articles he used as examples definitely were.
The Mail's headline is "Young Man City footballer, 20, on 25k a week splashes out on mansion on market for £2.25m despite having never started a PL match".
    Where's the racism?

I think it's b@ll@ox myself. So what if he's being paid that. He's in the Championship; there's plenty of guys at that level pulling in that money.

I think the Mail were looking for the "rage" mob that just hate to see young footballs, who haven't achieved anything, earning millions.

Yes, that was surely the choice so why focus on the black player when you have another 20 year old who has done the same?
