Just saw Dyche's press conference on SSN.

I think his point is right.

It was a good challenge and the injury probably happened from hitting the barrier.

Dyche is right that you don't want these challenges out of the game and I don't see how players should adapt for weather etc.

Injuries are just something that's part of the game.

He didn't hit any barrier though, the injury came from a fair challenge and we'll have to accept it.....that being said, he had an earlier challenge that was fair also but heavy from Brady that sent him flying........

Its understandable Klopp was annoyed, Gomez was on the end of some heavy challenges recently, Veratti another example, and predictably got injured as a result. Sure, I guess you dont want fair challenges gone from the game, but you dont want players injured as a result of heavy 'fair' challenges either.

Lets be honest not many teams in the world have a player the caliber of Lovren (self professed best in the world) as there 3rd choice CB or even Matip as 4th choice.

An issue would arise if VVD picked up a knock with Gomez out as Lovren and Matip need a leader and director beside them.

VVD isn't going to play every game over the xmas period even injury free and I dont fancy a Lovren Matip CB pairing.....Gomez is a huge loss at RB also, can TAA play every game over the same period? Relying on Clyne coming in makes me nervous also....Gomez has become a key player for us and will be missed....

    Our record with moreno_matip_lovren_clyne
And mignolet wasnt too bad. They are 2 good centre halves.

Favourite moment from last night, Alisson literally (again!) causing the third goal from a counter attack...

Our previous keepers may have saved the header, may have stopped the corner or may have found Sturridge quickly, but unlikely they would have stitched all 3 together in one commanding cameo. Dude's a ledge bag already

What was their record? Cant remember too many games they all started together now being honest so maybe I'm being harsh on them collectively, but individually bar Lovren all have major issues, playing them all together now after being so rock solid worries me......

Provided we don't lose another CB we'll be ok. Not ideal though.

If we were only chasing top 4 or even in the title hunt in a “normal” season we’d be ok, but when you have only dropped 6 points all season and are still 2 behind the leaders it is a pretty big blow. Even without it we’d be struggling to hang onto city through the Christmas period.

Napoleon couldn’t lead and direct Lovren and Matip

Or more than likely our previous keeper would not have saved the header.

How did the guy know to stay focused on Alisson in the first phases and then switch to follow the play when he released the ball I wonder?

What I want to know is why was Jack Cork throwing the hand up as if to block Alisson's throw?

I mean, what's the likely outcome if he blocks the ball? Straight red for deliberate hand ball and you team lose anyway? Stupidity

There was someone on here peddling the speel that they were a very decent partnership not so long ago iirc. Some ole clean sheet or goals conceded stat that at a glance looked ok to fair.
But watching the matches you'd be like ..............oh fooooooooooooooooook twice every 10 mins at least.

Could be something from their Roma days?

Mignolet or Karius would have given away a penalty if they had attempted to prevent the corner the other night.

I thought Sturridge had a fine game, seemed to hold up the ball and link up continuously where as so often previously he would overplay it and ultimately lose possession, he really is buying into what Klopp demands of him.

It would be a yellow for that, not a red (unless he was booked already). Turns out he would have stopped a goal!

Because someone said it, I have looked up the games that 1) Clyne Lovren Matip Moreno started & 2 Clyne Lovren Matip Milner

    with Milner at LB:

    Spurs away 1-1 (Mignolet)
    Chelsea away 2-1 win (Mignolet)
    Swansea away 2-1 win (Karius)
    United home 0-0 (Karius)
    WBA home 2-1 win (Karius)
    Saints away 0-0 (Karius)
    Sunderland home 2-0 win (Karius)
    West Ham home 2-2 (Karius)
    Chelsea home 1-1 (Mignolet)
    Everton home 3-1 win (Mignolet)
Palace home 2-1 loss (Mignolet) (back 5 with Lucas)
    WBA away 1-0 win (Mignolet)
    Watford away 1-0 win (Mignolet)
    Saints home 0-0 (Mignolet)
West Ham away 4-0 win (Mignolet)
    Boro home 3-0 win (Mignolet)
    Burton away 5-0 win (Mignolet)

    with Moreno at LB

    Palace away 4-2 win (Karius)
    Chelsea home 2-1 loss (Mignolet)

Then the Clyne injury happened so for the following, I just went with games that Moreno, Lovren & Matip started together

    Sevilla home 2-2 (Karius)
    Spartak away 1-1 (Karius)
    Maribor away 7-0 win (Karius)
    Porto home 0-0 (Karius)
    Hoffenheim away 2-1 win (Mignolet)
    Hoffenheim home 4-2 win (Mignolet)
    Watford away 3-3 (Mignolet)
    Arsenal home 4-0 win (Karius)
    Leicester away 3-2 win (Mignolet)
    Newcastle away 1-1 (Mignolet)
    United home 0-0 (Mignolet)
    Spurs away 4-1 loss (Mignolet)
    Stoke away 3-0 win (Mignolet)

and then finally with Robertson, Lovren, Matip

    Leicester home 2-1 win (Karius)
    Man City home 4-3 (Karius)
    Huddersfiled away 3-0 win (Karius)

Yeah, so that was my morning!

Interesting that we have only played a back 5 of Mignolet Moreno Lovren Matip Clyne a handful of times, one of them being the league cup this season, but also there is not many losses in there when both Lovren & Matip played together but usually 3-1 wins or 4-2, 3-2 wins etc.

Thought he was poor until Klopp made changes and Sturridge ended up playing deeper. From then on he was great.

During preseason all of Sturridge's best moments came playing behind the striker/attackers, and it was the same again the other night in my opinion.

He has a great passing range and vision (when not locked on goal), and I think telling him to play deeper makes him focus on the more creative side of his play.

When playing as the striker, he seemingly tries to play as he always did, relying on pace and playing off the shoulder, but he just can't play like that any more. Not efficiently anyway.

Granted not many losses but we know from following the team just how terrible Matip and Lovren were as a pair. The score line shows you how many goals conceded with was very high and doesn’t show you the countless calamity showings and near misses and nonsense that went on at the back with them there. As individuals they can be hit or miss, especially Lovren.

Back to holding the rosary beds for next few weeks.
