Sky box getting stuck

I'm having trouble with my sky Hd box.The last few days when I turn it on after the night before. The box is either frozen or stuck on whatever channel I was watching the night before. I have done a Planner rebuild and also a forced software update. All this does is that the box will work fine for a couple of hours before getting stuck again. It seems that when I go to use the Sky plus functions the box starts to act up. Any help would be appreciated

How full is the hard drive?

A failing HDD may be the issue, especially as it acts up when accessing the recordings.

If not that then a hardware fault, some versions of sky boxes were more prone to that, especially on the PSU boards.

Replacing the HDD is relatively straightforward if you are not bothered with losing your recordings, copying them (even possibly from a failing disk) to a replacement HDD is also possible if you have a disk cloner.

Getting to the HDD on a HD box is a fiddly process but there are a number of youtube vids that will guide you step by step through it.

It may well be cheaper and simpler to just buy a secondhand replacement sky+HD from ebay/donedeal (€20-50) and pair you card with it.

It is the one advantage of the boxes being essentially useless without a sub that they are not worth much second hand.

That makes little or no difference to box performance and having a 100% full HDD will not cause an otherwise healthy box to freeze up or glitch.

Thanks for your reply. The box was working fine for the last two days but has gotten stuck again this evening.Iwill do a system reset as a last resort. If that doesn’t work I will buy a replacement box.

Did you check the signal strength and make sure it is good on both feeds. Then check the cables at the back and see if they are either wet or corroded. You even re-do them, ie cut a bit off etc. Then if box fails again its more serious so get rid but take out the HDD for practice.

    good luck
