my friend accidently ended explorer.exe after pressing ctrl alt del
any ideas on restoring it?

reboot or log off and back on or Ctrl - Alt - Del->Task Manager -> File -> New Task type explorer.exe in box and hit return.

If you have NT/2K/XP - SHIFT-CTRL-ESC to start taskmgr.exe and file - new task - explorer.exe

If you have win 9x - reboot unless you have a dos prompt open - in which case explorer

There used to be a trick where you could delete the start button in 95....
