I reinvested 2 five figure batches in June. The smaller of the two won €50 today:) , giving me €200 on it since 7th September.
Edited to correct: The larger of the two (which is three times bigger than the smaller batch) has won 1 X €50 - last July .... all the other batches are still floundering in the bottom of the barrel....

my overall result for 2017 was .59%

    from Aug 17 to July 18- .36%

    Jan 2018 - Oct 2018 - .25%

The larger of the two five-figure reinvested batches won €50 today.:)

Nothing for us this week :(

Just bought a few prize bonds.
Do they email you if you have won a prize or do you need to enter your bond numbers every week.

No, they don't e-mail (or text) Bondholders after each draw where they are among the winners. Instead, each winning Bondholder is notified by letter.... and this normally arrives with them on the following Tuesday or Wednesday. However, if you register online at www.StateSavings.ie/Prize-Bonds and Add your bond reference numbers, you can log in after 12:30pm on each Friday afternoon to see if you have achieved any wins. This is how many of us are able to post here soon after with details of any wins following the latest PB draw.

18 months invested, 450 euro won, 0.24% per year. Are my calculations correct? Less again if you consider this is late Nov and your win for the year this far is 200.
About on par with the banks I guess.

After 7 years we've learned just buy the minimum to be in the draw, do something else with money.

    Close thread?

Even that is a bad investment of €25.

Just use them as a savings account is more accurate.

I had €25 in bonds bought for me as a gift in December 2007... going on 11 years old and never a cent out of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 714 ✭✭✭Agent Smyth

I have a bond, purchased around the start of the Prize Bonds in the late fifties, that has neither won a penny or a cent

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,053 ✭✭✭tuisginideach

Similar story here - I have a Premium Bond - similar age - have even updated my address - not a pound nor a penny from it. Then again, I have a large amount of Prize Bonds which haven't won a cent either!

Insert dumb lottery saying - "well, there's always a chance! :) Finger crossed for you! Dream big!"

    ZZZZZZZZZ

You can hold those bonds til the heat death of the universe and probably be safe never winning anything :D

Are you sure? The rate of return is random, if not utterly ****e.
What's the alternative though? Are any banks offering better than approx. 0.1%?
I've got some funds stuck in a crappy AIB account earning nothing but I'm tempted to just throw it into Prize Bonds...

    We're all in this psy-op together.🤨

My thoughts exactly a few years ago. I threw it into Prize Bonds back then and I have received €0.00 in winnings so far. Thinking of taking it all out to top up pension contribution to the max in 2019 and stick the rest into DeGiro.

I suppose you could do worse.
Back to today, nothing this week, last win 12th October €50.....

is there a maximum figure on the amount you can invest in prize bonds ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 272 ✭✭PB2018

It's quite similar to the banks. The one upside (for me) to prize bonds is that I can get almost immediate access to my savings if required (I think 10 working days).

For comparison to bank interest rates, over the course of 12 months (from July 17-June 18) my winnings on €134k amounted to €300, which works out at 0.22%.

I did a very quick search on bank interest rates, looking at instant access and 12 months fixed. KBC has the best instant access rate at 0.25% and PTSB has the best 12 month fixed rate at 0.5%.

However when you include DIRT (I used the 2018 rate of 37% for simplicity) these rates go down to 0.16% and 0.32% respectively. So my prize bonds (currently) fall somewhere in the middle.

18 months invested, 450 euro won, 0.24% per year. Are my calculations correct? Less again if you consider this is late Nov and your win for the year this far is 200.
About on par with the banks I guess.
