Diesel to contain 10% fame from 1/1/19

So, this morn I was privy to an internal doc for one of Ireland's large fuel retailer's.

    It stated the following:
The Irish Government is increasing the biofuel obligation rate to 10% from January 1st 2019 as a step towards the EU target of 10% of renewable energy sources in the transport sector by 2020. In Ireland, this obligation is met by blending FAME (Biofuel from vegetable oils) in diesel to produce BioDiesel. This FAME can absorb water much more so than petroleum derived fuels. When water is able to contaminate diesel, it provides conditions suitable for microbial growth and can lead to diesel bugs, moulds, yeasts and bacteria spreading throughout the fuel. If a diesel fuel storage facility is not properly maintained, this growth may cause filter blockages and other issues. As a result, good housekeeping is more important than ever, especially as we enter the winter months. The main thing is to ensure you and your staff complete regular daily, weekly and annual checks.

Yippy... itll be more expensive and offer less fuel economy.

When fame (bio content) was increased from 5% (B5) to 7% (B7) there was a price increase as this bio content is more expensive than plain dinosaur juice.

Another issue is, that many diesel cars , mine included , are only to run on a max of 7%(B7)

I can see a lot of cars being immobilised next winter with fuel blockages, Not an appealing prospect for motorists and filling station owners who will be on the hook for any potential damage that occurs.

How can they roll this out if it's not compatible with many vehicles here?

So we will have to scrap good cars and get new cars to protect the environment!

No they won't - just remove the "Diesel" pumps from the forecourt and replace them with the brand new "FAME" pumps

"Sorry, we don't have Diesel any more, we got FAME "

Self same as when Unleaded petrol came in

They just put "Unleaded" stickers all over the pumps :

Great lets plunder even more of the Amazon and Borneo to grow these Biofuels, AGW has been proven without a doubt as a total scam, the world is headed into the Sunspot Minimum which will see the planet dramatically cool. I'm wondering really is what politically connected crony stands to benefit for this decision, because it wouldn't be taken unless someone made money from it.

BMW (timing chain fail "R" us) can't even make an engine to run on diesel

Toyota are ending production of diesel cars :

Toyota to end production of diesel cars this year

Brand to become first mainstream firm to drop diesel from passenger car fleet in EU

    Old news.

Toyota had little choice, the deal to fit last generation BMW diesel engines (the ones with the dodgy chains) was coming to an end this year anyway as those engines wouldn't pass new EU emission laws. And their own remaining diesel engines wouldn't pass new EU emission laws either. Their overall diesel sales figures across Europe were not huge anyway compared to their rivals so the news hasn't really rocked the motoring world despite their marketing department making it look like a pioneering shift in policy to hybrids.

No, there just won't be anymore plain old diesel fuel for sale

Much like there are no "Premium (leaded)" fuel pumps on forecourts anymore

    It'll be F10 F20 and so on

Regulations re: labelling of fuel came in last month.
Petrol is to be labels as E5 E10 etc
    Diesel, B7 , B10 etc
This same label will also be inside fuel filler caps.

You need to get the OK from your car dealer, in writing, on their headed paper

And then bring that to a solictor and ask is it written properly

L/100 km is the European measurement. So why call it "Miles"?

Something to do with the Swedish term "Mils"

They've been selling miles and miles plus for a few yrs on the continent now

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavian_mile

    1 mil = 10km

Think the older diesels will need to be modified.

    1490 euro :

The typical 1-tank conversion kit would contain the following parts (subject to change):

    injector components

    glow-plugs

    additional fuel filter

    additional fuel pump

coolant-water heat exchanger to pre-warm fuel

    electrical fuel heater/filter

    temperature switch

    cut-off valve

    Relays and sockets

    fuel and water pipes

    fuel hand pump

    cabling

    fitting instructions

    User instructions

VW USA issued the document below to owners of diesels from 09-13 when Illinois changed bio fuel content. Says engine designed max 5%. If you own one might be worth read. Haven't found similar yet for current engine ( which I use). Links straight to doc download.

    That was in America though

VW customers in America ( emissions fraud victims ) were paid ~ 21,500

VW customers in Ireland got a letter

    https://global.handelsblatt.com/companies/big-dieselgate-bucks-for-vw-drivers-in-us-not-even-a-software-update-for-germans-898256

VW has set aside €25 billion to pay for the diesel emissions fraud. Most of that money will go to US customers and authorities.

The average refund amounts to $21,500 but VW has been paying as much as $45,000 for bigger models.

The whole government, social welfare, healthcare system, pensions basically everything government wise benefits from the fleet being upgraded it's a good thing really, means other taxes don't go up ie paye.

I'm confused though, is normal diesel going to be available at the pumps or is everything getting this additive.

If every diesel fuel is getting it there should be a grant available to convert to run on veg oil. if the government did that, everyone could move over and away from opec and provide jobs at the same time. It's ironic that this is labelled a green solution yet the cost from what i see could be mass amounts of scrapped cars posioning the land and water table sitting rusting away . I thought reuse recycle reduce was the calling card of the state now we need more land for rubbish as China has ceased doing our dirty work.
