Motoring conviction and certain jobs

Hi,

I have a conviction for driving without insurance. As it was my first and only offence, and because I had a 'special reason' (as outlined by the law), I received a fine with no disqualification or penalty points.

Will this prevent me from studying medicine? Specifically, graduate entry medicine. I'm aware that institutions perform background checks, and some institutions such as the RCSI absolutely require zero convictions. Others that I have read do not provide information outside of simply declaring a background check is performed.

My solicitor informed me that it shouldn't affect my application, as they usually only consider other offences (which I specifically can't remember). I'm asking here because what I'm reading online states the opposite, and that, for lack of a better phrase, my prospects of becoming a doctor are in the bin.
