sitting in their parents house in their mid thirties is not my or any other taxpayers problem.

Are we now supposed to gift a house to every young adult?

    ffs

maybe instead of this fella trying to focus on homeless, he should be out getting himself
    a home

    This is a bloke ??

was thinking the same. She sounds coherent now, but maybe we are not getting the full story.

    New definition of homelessness=

Doesn’t outright own home in own name

    Or

    Doesn’t rent in own name

I’m just back from Nepal, an incredibly impoverished country where homelessness doesn’t exist simply because everybody, including women, build their own homes with their own hands or if they have a degree of wealth can hire a builder to do the job. Then when next earthquake hits they have to rebuild and keep up a cheerful demeanor with no Lahvlahn to Phone.

What is your one going on about.

She is going around like a snail with her house on her back and she thinks cafe owners should give her free water.

Can she not get a job.

I was watching that programme with Brendan Courtney following people around who were looking to buy/rent houses a few weeks ago.

There was a single mother living with her parents (I assume she and her child are officially "homeless").

She was a secondary school teacher and was getting around €35k a year net. It flashed up on the screen that a "one parent, one child" applicant on €35,875 a year NET could received a HAP payment of €1250 per month!

This is absolute madness. You could be taking home almost €3k a month into your pocket and still be eligible for HAP of €1250 a month.

    What a country this is.

+1 There's a lot of people here who could do with a kick up the backside and a bit of practical help, towards building their own houses. Big enough tradition of self build (real self build) in other countries. Why not here?

Who is she, she talks too fast.

Why is he asking her how would she solve the housing issue.

    This is all nonsense.

Solution is for the usual squeezed middle to pay more tax and give up any rooms.

Actually a good incentive for self build for currently “homeless” people would also be a great occupation for somebody out of work or on part-time work. Of course there are a dozen holes in my imagined scheme, but surely such s scheme would provide hope, dignity and pride to those whole are physically capable and knowledgeable enough to build a simple plan decent house. Such a scheme would have to be thought out properly. I think though a major problem is plot availability near where people all seem to want to live.
