Yeah, get a harmony remote ðŸ˜႒

I'm in the process of setting the house up with Google Home, going to get the Hub, Home and a couple of minis, I'd assumed the Shields would be setup automatically with Google Home, especially as Google Assistant is already on it,but worried now that it's not :confused::confused:

Any tips on how to get Google Home to control the Shield? Outside of the standard ambient stuff I can't get it to do anything, even turn on.

These are the commands you can use on your Home to control the Shield.

Not a hint or a tip but just a vent. I'm over in England for the weekend and took my shield to occupy us in the hotel . Threw it in the bag and just thought to myself " no point climbing in the back of the tv to get the power lead I'll just use a spare usb c cable from the pile " . How wrong I was :( . Really should have checked properly before I assumed. Grrr

How did you not spot that before? 1 of the first things I noticed with the shield was the propriety power cable, what a pain in the arse, personally it really annoys me when anything doesn't have a usb-c power supply now, my Galaxy Watch really annoyed me when I took it out of the box to see the b connection.

Then again, isn't it amazing that a device as small as something that can be thrown in a bad can have as much power as it does, I had to get a friend to help me carry my gaming PC upstairs back in the day

I never even looked tbh. Unboxed in and plugged it in while half looking. Havnt looked at it since. Bloody kicking myself now. Wouldn't even be as big an issue if you could just go to a shop and buy one.

I feel your pain, I remember my first new Nokia weekend away, used to be able to say "can I borrow a charger" only to realise the new charger was ****ing tiny and I used to only charge my phone through the car cradle, I ended up driving around Connemara on a "drive" just to charge my phone.

    Hi guys,

After more than 12 months use I've started getting pop up messages saying the shields storage space is too low.

Has anyone here experienced this? Is there a standard way to deal with it? Is is a symptom of a poorly performing app or something?

All I can think of is that because I'm running Plex Server with a 2TB NAS it's hogging all the space?

90% of the time I have StbEmu running IPTV in HD with Plex Server in the background. Is that too much for the 16GB shield to handle?

Yes, it's your Plex library. Get some storage and adopt it as internal storage. You might need to sign up to the latest preview version for this

I’ve been watching it for the past year using Getflix smart dns, all the other players are working fine bbc, 4OD, and 5 but itv hub is just giving me a white screen the passed few days

Is this an official Android TV app or was it side loaded? Could it be detecting the HDMI. Lots of these players block usage when they detect HDMI for piracy reasons

Yeah, get a harmony remote ðŸ˜႒

I've one a long time and the new commands for it via home are useless. It's a regression from when you had to ask for Harmony.

Yeah it's a mess at the moment. Between problems with the new app, Harmony integration changes and also new Shield integrations I don't know where my issues lie. I also have shortcuts and routines using Stringify that are not working as they use Harmony. Far too many changes at once

    Operation via Alexa on way:

Nvidia says the Shield TV is now the only "streamer" that can be controlled via Google and Amazon's smart speakers.

    Hi,

Is anyone having issues with Netflix loading on their shield?
I recently bought a shield and Netflix was running perfect with Nord VPN, some time last week i tried to load netflix and it just hangs on the Loading screen with the 'N' and spinner, eventually im getting an nw 25 connection error (The Shield is connected via a cat 6 cable to the modem) so i tried uninstalling NORD as i thought maybe netflix wasnt liking the NORD servers (i tried connecting through many different countries, disconnecting the service and using their preferred servers for streaming - no luck) but even uninstalling didnt help.
I cant uninstall /reinstall netflix app as its native to the box so before i go down the rest route (i dont really fancy doing this as its taken me a while to get it running with the apps i want) i was wondering did anyone encounter an issue like this and what was your work around?

    Thanks

Try and clear the cache for the Netflix app first.

It seems to be a known error anyway from these links

AFAIK Netflix won't work with a VPN on

It works with most of the good vpns I use it with express vpn to change locations and it works fine.

Definitely blocked me via express VPN ( had it for a short time)

Mine works fine been brilliant. I think every vpn can be blocked at some stage when Netflix finds the ip that they use but then they change up and it works again.

I've had no problems using netflix with Nord, i use Ireland, UK, Germany on any random server and i use the recommended US servers to connect to US netflix. But im not sure that the issue im having is related to Nord as Netflix wont even load onto the home screen where as any issue i've had using the VPN has come when i try and play a video.

I cleared caches and data from the app last night and still wouldnt load. Internet settings are the same, i can connect via mac, very frustrating as it is just affecting the shield.

Would this have anything to do with my Turkish netflix sub?

Nothing to do with Turkish sub that’s a simple process of pretend to be in turkey via vpn and switch off turkey and sign in as normal

Have you tried turning off the vpn and restarting the shield and see if Netflix will load ?
You can also try uninstalling updates and updating the app again

Yep tried all, even went as far as uninstalling Nord and same issue.

its looking more and more like a factory reset i think :(

I see that the Alexa skill has been added to this for users in the US and also if you buy from Amazon you get an Echo with it. Pity its not over here yet but would defo buy one then

Just wondering how the voice control works on that I know it controls the shield but can it pause video streaming via kodi or via an app that is playing in vlc? Wonder same when Alexa skill comes on board also

When Netflix block the ip you need to change your server to a working one, you seem to have a lot of problems with VPN and smart dns not working for you
Tried a lot of them, changed servers etc, ended up I player etc buffering like fcuk, bandwidth etc , wasn't worth it for me personally,,,,,so either it's me or VF ( have siro rapid upload/ download),,,,,,,,, probably me though, luddite through and through

i am on vodafone fibre so just average internet compared to you, maybe something else going on, crap router is a possibility
i have the shield and all other things that dont move hard wired and never experience buffering or slow down of the internet

Is there something to disable to do with ipv6 ?

[Disclaimer: I haven't a clue what I'm talking about, just thought i read it here somewhere]

Long press on the shield remotes select button in Kodi used to bring up the context menu but it does not seem to work anymore. Tried restarting but no joy..any else seen this or have a fix?

My trusty old Logitech 555 universal remote has given up the ghost - I had been using it to control my LG Smart TV, Tiviar Alpha Plus combi-box and Samsung soundbar. I was using the Shield's (2017 model, no IR) own remote to control it.

Any recommendations on a universal remote to control everything? I was thinking of getting a older Harmony 650 and combining it with a FLIRC to allow the Shield to accept an IR signal.

I don't have the budget to upgrade to a Harmony Ultimate, I want to spend about 50-70 Euro max.

Anyone else with stbemu on the shield start getting ads in it the past few days? Never got them before. I'll have to upgrade to the pro version it seems.

You could get that or a Harmony One without the hub. You can buy a hub later.
