Visiting regularly from the states - immigration

Hi all. I've been seeing an American girl for some time and we visit each other regularly. She's beginning to get questioned at immigration more and more. I'm pretty sure she's well under her 90 day allowance, but it's making her very uncomfortable. Is it safe for her to say she's visiting a "boyfriend" or will that just inspire greater scrutiny?

If you wish to stay for more than 3 months you must have permission to remain and register your presence in Ireland with immigration.

Under Section 9 of the Immigration Act 2004, non-EEA nationals must register when staying here for more than 3 months.

Seems "stamp 3" is the way to go, for a "Dependant/Partner/Spouse Employment Permit"; http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/migrant_workers/employment_permits/spousal_work_permit_scheme.html but bear in mind that they "are not permitted to work", and have to show that they can support themselves for the visit.
