...to update my laptop to 1809 yet?
Heard the scare about lots losing files after this update
Can anyone shed light on has this been fixed yet?

It's currently back in the Windows Insider preview program, so that's the only way to get it now. They have said that they identified the problem and fixed it, so when it hits Windows Update, it'll be fine.
