Bit of advice regarding build

Hi all,

Been a few years since my last build so I'm into touch with new parts.

I'm thinking of going for a new build but I'm unsure as to what to do. Recently just started looking at components and prices are astronomically high for CPUs and GPUs. What's the reasoning behind that?

I was thinking of going with a ryzen, but since Zen2 is expected next year is there any point of going brand new now ? Intel prices seem way too high and AMD performance is not that bad as previous years.

Gpu are rx 580s same as gtx 1070 ? I know gtx 2xxx are new but what about radeon cards ? Did they bring something new out or are they due with new cards?

I was planning a build around 1500, something mid to high range.

What are your opinions on this ? Should I wait or build now ?

AMD plans to support socket AM4 until 2020, so if you get a good motherboard you can upgrade the CPU no problem in 2 years.

Intel are increasingly reliant on "halo" products like the i9-9900K because their manufacturing can't get below 14nm, so they're stuck with expensive CPUs to try to make a profit.
AMD are doing much better here; they've sussed out manufacturing and are much more able to bring competitively priced CPUs out.

GPU tiers are:
GTX 1050 > 1050 Ti >> 1060 3Gb > RX 570 > RX 580/GTX1060 6Gb >> GTX 1070 >> 1070 Ti > 1080/Vega 56 >> RTX 2080 > GTX 1080 Ti >> RTX 2080 Ti

Build now.

Do you need monitor/peripherals as well? €1500 will get you a nice machine regardless.

Thanks for that. I need a monitor and peripherals as well but I reckon I will be going on adverts to source them. Some good deals to be had.

Forgot about the RTX 2070 which just launched (£459.99)

I'd consider that instead of GTX 1070 Ti - Scan have the EVGA model.

Ok, so I've started to drift a bit towards future proofing my build a bit and increasing the budget. Any opinions on the below items ? I will probably end up changing the SSD to a Samsung evo

RTX 2080 or GTX 1080 Ti ? For some reason, when I see the new RTX lineup, the word AMD Mantle springs to mind.

Check reviews of that motherboard, a few of the X470 Gigabyte boards had issues with VRM's or capacitors and I recall OC3D warning people not to buy rev 01 and 02.

Did a quick search myself couldn't see anything stand out.. Might go Asus or Asrock route.

My mistake, its was the Z370 Ultra Gaming that was the culprit.
