It's not wise use these smart DNS services for your normal day to day devices as you can leave yourself wide open to DNS poisoning and could easily be redirected to fake sites to login. It's ok to use on something like a Shield or other media box, not on any device where your do personal stuff. Definitely don't put it on your router, bad, bad, idea.

Just checked mine and it’s fine for us Netflix and uk players are working fine
Exit the Netflix and totally so it closes and try again
Have you checked the getflix dashboard ?
I have the app on the phone and update it daily as my ip isn’t fixed but it’s no big deal

Do you mind my asking how you have it set up for the shield (just set it up on mine), are there any hidden settings on the shield to be changed or just the regular ip stuff?

Try Emby, it's handling of live TV is supposedly much better than Plex

It really isn't. Both Emby and Plex are not built for live TV and can't handle it at all. Most providers dropped them as a platform a long time ago because of this (there was too much hassle for them with people having issues).

Dedicated apps, STB or Kodi are your best options.

Scanning always available - I have that set to off

    Settings

Locations status - I have that set to off also

Cheers, i had it set on my fire stick ok but not used to all the shield settings yet, the app is handy alright for turning it on and off

Guys just wondering would upgrade to A shield be a good improvement on a standard android TV box ? My internet isn’t amazing , average 10MBS but would it handle apps , streaming etc a lot better ?

    Thanks

    Is it working now ?

Nope, US Netflix loads but when I try to play US content I get a message saying they detected a proxy/unblocker. Annoying to say the least

A Shield is an upgrade on everything, no contest. If it's in your budget get it. You'll not be disappointed

To be honest, what that speed, any device you get is going to run very slowly... However, you have enough to watch HD content but I would definitely recommend that you connect it via an Ethernet cable in order to get the best performance. You may need to make sure that anyone else in the house isn't trying to stream or use anything that requires a fast connection at the same time. The Shield is the Shield though - it's the business and, as you can see from the threads on here, people can't recommend it highly enough. Enjoy! :D

Yeah I’m definitely convinced its a superb bit of kit- just my internet speed is my main concern . Thanks for the input !

Exit Netflix and restart the shield and try again

First thing I tried. I'm wondering if it could be due to the type of router I have (fritzbox).

10Mbps is more that enough for streaming 720p quality video, but as other poster said, as long as the kids or other family members are not also consuming bandwidth.

1080p needs somewhere between 5-10 Mbps depending on encoding and other factors so you may be ok there also. A lot of times it's not your local speed that's the issue but on the other side, so depends on where you are streaming from i.e., free or paid service.

As for the shield, I have been burned so many times with various ****e android boxes. Swore I'd never buy android again and stick to a HTPC or Pi. But I kept reading about the latest best box and getting sucked in again. Last one before the shield i tried was the Minix neo-u9h but like the rest, was unstable and could not handle liveTV well - did not pass the SAT. So despite all the hype around the shield, I resisted until last month. Now I'm kicking myself for not buying years ago! It is simply a different league to all the others, fantastic device. It's still android and has needed occasional restarts but that's rare and the performance & Android TV interface are excellent.

Did you follow the steps on the getflix website for your router ?
Is the app picking up your router and updating correctly ?

It seems weird that you can see the library but can’t play it, that happened to me once when I first got getflix but I unplugged everything and started again.

It’s working here, the small fella is watching Netflix at the moment

Yeah, will tinker with it again later but it's odd alright. i had it working before on a previous router fine. I think it must be router settings but you never know.

Any deals on these, seems a bit much for what I want it for. Have one already and it's top notch. But looking for a second and it's dearer now than when I got mine. Not streaming 4K so could't give a monkeys about that. Suggestions welcome.

After a lot of messing around I finally got US Netflix working. Had to disable ipv6 on the shield and add a bunch of static routes to get it going. Looks like The Netflix app was calling its own dns servers and googles for geo locks so had to block them all. bit of a pain as it slows down Netflix loading but at least it works.

Would us Netflix just work with a vpn?

Works with getflix, they do a free trial it’s worth a go
I’ve been using them for a year now and it’s spot on and simple
Toggle us Netflix on or off via the app

Not sure why the other user had so many issues with his shield and getflix, mine was simple enough

I have vpn on my shield anyway I use express vpn so was wondering would it just be a case if setting it to USA and you get usa Netflix when you log in haha.

    Try it and see
Quick google says it works according to express vpn website

What would I look out for to know it's usa Netflix? I only singed up for first time a month ago so not sure haha.

So in a nutshell THHB, you're saying if you want to use a smart DNS like Getflix do so at the device level not at the router level?

Also, do I need or should I install the Getflix app on the Shield? It doesn't seem to be compatible with Android TV so would have to be sideloaded.

The app is for VPN which is different to smart DNS. A VPN tunnels all your traffic to another location

That's not really an issue for me it's handy been able just switch between countries in seconds.

lol, couldn't get mine to stop doing it, I turn off everything at night, so when I hit the power again the next day or whatever it turns on everything, so ended up having to plug out the shield.

So I just signed up for a 14 day free trial of Getflix and changed the DNS settings on my Shield to the Getflix DNS settings. I set DNS #1 to the Irish DNS and DNS #2 to the UK DNS and did a restart and all seems to be working fine but how can I tell if I'm accessing the US Netflix library or not? Is there a movie or TV series which is only available on Netflix USA someone can recommend? I tried searching for "The Boss Baby" and got it but then accessed Netflix via me laptop (which is just using Googles standard DNS) and hence can only access the Irish library and it's available!!

Also, once the Shield DNS is set to the Getflix DNS is there a way to switch back to Irish Netflix without having to reset the DNS back to Googles DNS?

FYI my Shield is connected to my router over Ethernet not WiFi but don't think that should make any difference.
