Discussion on Candle light Vigils

I asked my local garda station could I do something like a candle light vigil outside a house where an elderly person is being threatened by a daughter.
I also consulted with a solicitor who specialises in elder safeguarding the the same question.
I preferred the garda advice but really I would be grateful for a discussion on how I can avoid being arrested if I hold such a vigil?

If there is " a case " you could achieve the exact opposite of whatever you are trying to do

You are going to do exactly what this imaginary daughter is hoping you will do

Oh for Gods sake. whos going to arrest someone for holding a candle outside a house?
If its a breach of the peace you got a problem, if its harassment (non fatal offences against the person etc), you got a problem.

But really if you know of an elderly person that is being abused, you have a moral duty to report it.

I have reported it. However this just meant that the daughter had me issued with a solicitors letter threatening legal action against me for defamation. I am wondering if I keep walking as if on a picket that I cant be arrested. Is a candle vigil considered harassment or breach of the peace? The solicitor I went to advised me that I would have a judgement against my house if I did a vigil.

If your going to do anything like that you have to remain anonymous. You leave yourself wide open to be a victim.
The guards will be called and at the very least you will be given a caution.

Call AWARE and express your concerns. Then walk away. Its none of your business, if the professionals wont get involved neither should you. Your not Mother Theresa.

Incidentally how did the daughter find out you made a report?

Are you proposing to do this outside the house of the elderly person who is being threatened, or outside the house of the daughter who is making the threats? Or do they both live in the one house?

And, either way, what do you hope to achieve by this?
