I have a 08 Mazda 6 petrol, and when I turn the ignition today a clicking noise from behind glove box happened for about 10 seconds then stopped. Understand from Mazda forum it is linked to cabin heating system ( when I change to circulate air then back to non circulate clicking happens again) but cannot see any solution to fix it anywhere. Appreciate any suggestions!?

A relay, maybe? Could be located in the internal fusebox.

Edit: A sticking flap/valve in the air pipes? You say it happens when you toggle the recirculation option. Could there be a relay operating that flap?

These are just suggestions, as you asked for. :)

I had this exact problem on a mates Mazda 6 and it is a small electric switch directly behind the glovebox, he just wanted the clicking to stop every time he turned on the ignition so I just unplugged the electrical connection from the switch and that stopped the clicking noise and he was happy with that. I tried in vain to convince him to get a new/secondhand switch but he wasn't interested, he just wanted the clicking to stop. It is easy enough to get at, just open the glovebox and squeeze in the sides of it and the glovebox will drop down then switch the ignition on and you will feel the switch clicking when you put your fingers on it. I remember when I googled the part, it was fitted to the Mazda 3 as well as the 6. If you go on YouTube and look up Mazda 6 pollen/cabin filter removal it shows you how to remove the glovebox. You might even spot the switch on the video. Oh and while your in there might as well check the pollenfilter , his one was absolutely stinking, so he told me to replace it but not the switch. Hope this helps!

Its the recirculating valve and a very common problem. Basically when you switch off your engine, the recirculating valve closes so as not to allow cold air/damp air enter the car when parked. When you switch on the engine, the valve opens but yours is sticking and causing the clicking noise as it tries to open. If you unplug the switch the valve remains closed so the heater system is always using recirculated air.
