Over the course of 10 new episodes, Season 2 of Making a Murderer provides an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, exploring the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.
“Steven and Brendan, their families and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice,” said executive producers, writers and directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos.
“Building on Part One, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part Two, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers.”
Part Two introduces viewers to Kathleen Zellner, Avery’s hard-charging post-conviction lawyer, in her fight to prove that Avery was wrongly convicted and win his freedom. Ricciardi and Demos follow Zellner, who has righted more wrongful convictions than any private attorney in America, as she tirelessly works the case and uncovers unexpected evidence about what may have happened to Teresa Halbach and about how and why the jury convicted Steven of her murder.
Ricciardi and Demos also follow Dassey’s post-conviction lawyers, Laura Nirider and Steven Drizin, with Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth, as they fight in federal court to prove their client’s confession was involuntary, a fight that could take Brendan’s case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Ten more episodes... Ah here. The first season was a chore to get through because of its length. Couldn't imagine there being enough material for 10 more hours of television.

Conversely it was one of my top 20 most played songs on Spotify last year.. absolutely love it.

It wasn't the song, its a great song, but in that pilot episode (and maybe epsiode 2), they played the same 5 seconds of that song about 15 times in an episode.

It got pretty grating. Someone working with the show must have the felt the same, as it only gets played a few times per epsiode for the rest of the seasons

Somebody here recommended Rake a few weeks back. It's a gem of a show! Would highly recommend!

I'd second this - just discovered it recently.

I thought the tone of episode 1 was a bit all over the place but it soon found its groove.

Best programme I've come across in a while.

What’s Unsolved like? Worth a watch?

It's decent, especially if you have an interest in the story as it is. Quite cheesy at times though, quite American and over the top.

Despite being a fan of Tupac /hip-hop and most of that music being a soundtrack to my youth I found it boring and gave up after 4 episodes

I enjoyed it, it took a few episodes to find its rhythm and to shake off some of the cheesiness.

I think I must be in the minority in that I'm really enjoying Maniac. I've only two episodes left to watch so I'll be finishing it of tonight. Very heavy Michel Gondry vibes off it but that's not a bad thing in my book.

You're not alone, my friend. And I'm also getting the Gondry vibes. It's not going to change the world but I'm finding it pretty engaging.

I'm sure it's been mentioned here before but just watched Perks of being a Wallflower. I thought it was great, highly recommend to anyone. I'm a big fan of coming of age films (though good ones are very rare these days) so this was right up my street.

It was strange in a way, it's only about 100 min long but felt a lot longer but in a good way, as in a lot was fitted in and you and the characters were on a journey in that time. I think I'll pick up the book over Christmas to give it a read.

Anyone who missed this in the cinema, get on it.

It never seemed to get the coverage it deserved, I think being released around Arrival focused the Amy Adams attention away from this, but she is much better in this. It's a brutal watch in places but it was an incredible film. I easily had it as best film of the year, I couldn't believe it got overlooked come awards season

I wasn't really a fan of this. I thought the story within the story to be much more entertaining to the point where I would've preferred an entire film about that. I know what the it was trying to with the two stories but it didn't work for me and I found Adams's part of the film to be quite boring. But yes, she's certainly very good at pretending to read ;-)

    Ha ha, fair enough!

She is very good at pretending to read :-P
I thought the story within the story linked well to the flashbacks in particular, and needed the grounding in the real world to justify how extreme (and slightly ridiculous) it was. And I enjoyed the depiction of how fake the "real" world she'd built for herself was

It's worth a watch on Netflix but I thought it wasn't great - the dual narrative gimmick is let down by one of the two narratives being derivative pish, on top of which Aaron Taylor Johnson is his usual plank-like self and Jake Gyllenhaal is underused. Michael Shannon and Amy Adams are good, though. It just never lives up to the in your face weirdness of the opening scenes, IMO, and feels like a story where Tom Ford thought he was being much deeper and cleverer than he actually was...
