The losers of the group of 4 that haven't made the quarter finals play off to decide the last team to go down.

Thanks, so does that mean that 5 of the 8 teams that lost their first round games will be going down? That means that the likes of Eire Og and Cooraclare can't win the championship. Is Doonbeg v Miltown regarded as a quarter final as they won their first round games?

If you Win R1 (3 weeks ago) and R2 (this weekend) you are quarter final material
If you lose R1 and lose R2, you are gone - this is set in stone
If you lose R1 and win R2 you are in a play-off right?

And for those 4 teams in the play-off, one goes down, so what's the format there, 2 games or 3?

    I think I need a venn-diagram to get this :D

Going by this it seems that all of the first round losers are now out of the championship and are only playing to avoid relegation, is this correct? Paddy power is currently giving odds based on all 16 teams being still in the championship

To further complicate this, if Eire Og win tomorrow and are still in the championship I presume they would be playing whoever loses from the winners round ties e.g. loser of Doonbeg v Miltown. If this is the case how do they sort out the final team being relegated, as in could Doonbeg/Miltown be involved in the relegation playoffs? I could be completely wrong in all of this but I'm just not sure of how its supposed to play out

No all 1st round losers can still go on to win it outright. The 4 teams that lose in rd 1 & 2 are gone.

The 4 winners from the winners section this weekend are into the quarters. The 4 losers from the winners section play the 4 winers from the losers section - the winners here go into quarters and the 4 losers go into playoffs with one more team relegated.

So one of the teams that won their first round game two weeks ago could potentially get relegated?

From my understanding and the above replies info
    Look correct to everyone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,441 ✭✭✭Boots234

That seems to be my understanding also. Just seems a bit harsh that a team that win their first round game could still be relegated

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,441 ✭✭✭Boots234

Looks like Doora Barefield will be the first team to go down, they are 2-11 to 4 points down at half time to Eire Og

Is it not harsher that you are Done and dusted after 2 games if you loose back to back?

Ennistymon beat St. Breckans by about 2 11 to 09 & Cratloe beat Clonegad 1 13 to 1 12 in the Park.
Ennistymon & Cratloe progress to Q finals having won both their 2 games while Breckans & Clonegad go into Round 3, they can still make A finals or go down (I think)

*Edited as I thought Kilfenora V Corofin was Intermediate championship

    KIB beat Lissacasey 2 15 to 1 14 AET.

Excellent post shane , very sad again today really nice touch by all the clubs ,Michael was probably one of the best footballers in the county over the last 19'or 20 years

Even though he hit the clare intercounty scene at the worst possible time he will always be remembered as an excellent inter county forward

Hopefully kilkee can kick on now in his absence and gain promotion in his name , it must have been a tough day for them today too

The footballers will do well to stay up next season, I fear that next season could be the end of the road for the current management team but if they could stay in division 2 it would be great for football in the county. You'd be confident of our chances at home but we'll struggle to pick up points on the road

A big weekend this weekend with a lot of relegation matches on as well as round 3 of the senior, some scores below.

I thought Tulla could be the surprise team this year, shows what I know

    https://twitter.com/GaaClare/status/1038480367962017793
Normal service is resumed for Cratloe

    https://twitter.com/GaaClare/status/1038458438500708352
I didn't think Wolfe Tonnes were that bad

    https://twitter.com/GaaClare/status/1038418653589450752
Newmarket will be glad not to be back in the playoff "final", Whitegate must be sick of being in it

    https://twitter.com/GaaClare/status/1038481790619602947
Clonlara won't be happy to have been that close to being beaten, Barefield will have to rise their game again to beat Whitegate.

Draw for the next round of the hurling championship takes place tonight at 6.30. Sixmilebridge, Ballyea, Eire Óg and Clooney/Quin will be in 1 pot with Cratloe, Kilmaley, Mills and InaMona in the other. I think that there can't be a repeat pairing from round 2 but I'm not 100% sure on that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 970 ✭✭✭Stationmaster

Afaik there can't be repeat pairings 'where possible'. For example, if Eire Og v The Mills were drawn out early in the draw then they'd avoid each other but if they were the last two left then they would play each other. Not sure if this is definite but that's what I was told over the weekend.

I heard that if here is a posibility of a repeat pairing when it's time for the third quarter final that there isn't a draw and they set the matches, but I don't think anyone knows.

    Clooney Quin v Mills
    Ballyea v Inamona
    Eireog v kilmaley
    Cratloe v the bridge

Very even ties there and all close to call. On weekend of 23rd

You'd imagine the first team in each match would win but very even games, there won't be much in most of them
