While I respect people raising the issues of abuses etc in the church and the importance to heal and rectify these abuses, which I totally support, the topic at hand this weekend, the meeting of the families, is also important. I hope as the weekend goes on that this issue too will gain good discussion.

However, I’m disappointed to read that on the day they discussed the LGBT community in the RDS, that not one lgbt stand was allowed to be pitched in the RDS grounds. I’m not part of the lgbt community, but I dare say, that was an own goal on the organizers. It just didn’t make any sense.

They had a section in the RDS conference devoted to reaching out to the lgbt Catholic community- it was led by a very good Jesuit priest. So they did “reach out” but not enough

I'd tend to agree. The centralising Romanist tendancies of the continental Church imposed on the native Celtic church plus the introduction of the inferior (compared to Brehon law) English common law system did untold damage to Ireland and its chances of emerging as a progressive society. A situation we are only fixing now with the recent referendums being passed.
