This day has cultural significance, if you don't give a **** about it, I'd imagine you to be a bore, probably watching some ****e English league match. I'd say I am Catholic but whatever about that, it's a good weekend to reflect and discuss on where we are at a society as we truly enter a post-christian era in our country. That's a good thing.

While I respect people raising the issues of abuses etc in the church and the importance to heal and rectify these abuses, which I totally support, the topic at hand this weekend, the meeting of the families, is also important. I hope as the weekend goes on that this issue too will gain good discussion.

However, I’m disappointed to read that on the day they discussed the LGBT community in the RDS, that not one lgbt stand was allowed to be pitched in the RDS grounds. I’m not part of the lgbt community, but I dare say, that was an own goal on the organizers. It just didn’t make any sense.

LGBT didn't meet the criteria of family.

I don't care one way or the other, except to be glad Im not blocked in this time as in many many times previously. That said, the man is all over my SM, I wish the seemingly non-stop coverage would go away.

I'm not one for the pope, nor the football.

I've better things to be doing. Laundry, getting my son's books wrapped up for school, walk the dogs, bag their sh!te.

You cared enough to post on here to say you don't care.

No one bar them and the president and Mrs Higgins know. He seemed to be listening anyway.

They had a section in the RDS conference devoted to reaching out to the lgbt Catholic community- it was led by a very good Jesuit priest. So they did “reach out” but not enough

No apologies says it all really

I hope that's true. We need to get back to our Celtic roots and shake of the yoke of Roman oppression.

I'd tend to agree. The centralising Romanist tendancies of the continental Church imposed on the native Celtic church plus the introduction of the inferior (compared to Brehon law) English common law system did untold damage to Ireland and its chances of emerging as a progressive society. A situation we are only fixing now with the recent referendums being passed.

Didn't the translator sound like Manuela? Half expected the pope to say something about his teams mentality a la Trapattoni!

What the difference between witchcraft ceremonies and mass?

Is the video feed ahead of Sharon ? She seems to be talking well behind the video pictures.

That's the Jesuit priest that 9500 tolerant individuals signed a petition to try and have stopped from attending.

Leo always looks a bit uncomfortable when walking beside various “dignitaries “ and foreign politicians....kinda like he doesn’t know where to look, whether to smile or not, eyes all over the place....kinda like he can’t believe he’s there..!!

One invokes the spirit of a dead man as you eat his skin and drink his blood, the other one is about talking to trees.

I’d say you need to go off and take a Valium or something, your picking on everyone’s posts.

Politically he can’t apologize I suppose, it would open the floodgates to lawsuits if he did.
