Yep, that’s what I said. I'm not sure why you said it again or what your point is, but a 17 year old is not a “child actor” which is what I was responding to.

A 17 year old is a child, he is literally a child actor.
And you took my "lol" out of context. It was specifically in response to the excerpt from the NY Times that revealed that he is a millionaire who is now only earning 60k a year. This is all about money.

    If you say so.

    Child
a young human being below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority

Age of consent is 17 in Ireland. It's all subjective, anyways.

Obviously a case of the guy pulling a fast one. Anybody who would say otherwise has never been a 17 year old adolescent male. I probably would have sold my soul to sleep with her when I was 17....

It is not just female to male abuse, it is one of the loudest mouthpieces of #metoo to male abuse.

Oh the significance isn't lost on me, and doubtless the cries of hypocrisy will ring loud (no more than they usually do with any moral stance taken by Hollywood), but assuming the movement has any designs on credibility or self-awareness will jettison Argento with gusto. But nor should contrarians use it as some smoking gun either.

As with so many of those #-movements, they all start nice and useful.
And then they are being hi-jacked by not so lovely people.

    Edit:
Only recently that i saw Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown where she appears in the later seasons 2x and of course i knew what had happened with Bourdain so my mind wasnt 100% neutral already.
But i got a bad vibe of her in those episodes

And then you run into this:

I think the thing to remember is that she knew him from a much earlier age. She hung around him for years. That's proper grooming and all sorts of wrong.

A lot of feminists now saying we should wait for the allegations to be proven before judging Argento.
If only male accused were given the same opportunity to clear their name by the twitter mob.

I'd agree if the circumstances were they just met in a club or online or something, but she was seen as something of a parental figure by his family who allowed him to stay in touch with her and even dropped him to the hotel.

Most of the anger, or incredulity to be more precise, though, is because she has has been pontificating to society about how those in power in the film industry take advantage of impressionable young people starting out in it..... and that's just what she did, as she promised him roles in more of her films. Not perhaps as a transaction, necessarily, but as a means of seducing him for sure.

I didn't believe a word she said before anyway, given her subsequent decade long relationship with Harvey after she claims he forced himself upon her, so no real surprise for me that this has come out.

Have to say had she left her dead partner's name out of it, her statement wouldn't have been any less plausible. Bringing his name into it just comes across as clearly calculated when he cannot confirm or deny its veracity. Poor form. Still have the same open mind about the case, just can't understand why she would do this.

By all accounts she comes across as a garbage person

Because she's a very very very odd fish

Gets worse......Daily Mail got their hands on alleged texts from her to a friend. Odd isn't the word.

This is what an assault looks like apparently.

All sounds like a grift on behalf of Bennett and I don't believe, for a single second, that he was, in any way, traumatised.

But, to be honest, Argento fucking around with a "minor" is a fault all of her own. Plus, with her vocal outbursts during the #metoo "revolution"and subsequent limelighting because of it, it's kind of weird negative karma coming back at her.

    Hollywood types...

There is no way she is guilty.. how do I know this?? Well, because she says so and we must automatically believe women. Case closed!!

I don't believe he was traumatised either and today he looks quite dodgy. Still.... can't get away from the fact she played this guy's mother when he was 12 years old. And she slept with him because she felt pressured (or how the story goes according to the Daily Mail)? Fcuk that.

I don't believe for a second that Rose McGowan was traumatised - a leg up in her career and a pay off.

But you can't have one being okay and one not.

Probably not, but if the roles were reversed would this be allowed for one second?
It should be equal rules for everyone.

Geoffrey Rush is the latest actor to be accused.

Teaser trailer for the new season of House of Cards. Frank Underwood returns.

In the event that Hollywood doesn't take Spacey back, I guess he could embark on a career as a Youtube star. Speaking of which, do the yanks let you do Youtube videos from jail?

That was utterly surreal. Satire truly feels dead in this age when reality continues to outstrip fiction for ludicruousness. Hard to see what Spacey reckoned this video would serve.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,289 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

I genuinely don't know what to make of that.

As performance art and as a response to the claims (made specifically in relation to Spacey) about not separating the art from the artist it's pretty ingenious. I wonder if he wrote this himself or if someone convinced him to do it. That he released this on the same day that other Hollywood actors are posting videos of themselves cradling kittens or cooking turkeys is even more hilarious.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at Netflix right now. After they pick their jaws up off the floor I assume they'll try and sue him for using the likeness of the character or something.

That was just mental and I'm totally at a loss what he thinks he will gain by posting this!

Deffo takes some balls, got to give him that.

Looks like the talk of Max Landis being the latest named abuser has solidified a little: but The Daily Beast has an exposé based on the testimony of 8 women. Some of it sounds pretty abusive by all accounts. He had been sacked from a few productions a good while before this news struck, again making one wonder how many knew before it became to hot to handle:

Seems like an oddball in this interview. Why does Hollywood seem to be a conveyor belt that consistently churns out these creeps?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Must be pretty red-faced of RLM to have had him over a couple of times.

The more pertinent question is: how known are these abuses that people just look the other way? Weinstein is the obvious example, but Josh Trank (who worked with Landis on Chronicle) came out after this exposé to say Landis was banned from the set during the shooting of Chronicle; so either Trank is just currying favour in a "I always knew he was a bad egg" sorta way, or else Landis was abusive on that set, making Trank & co. passively complicit.

I thought Max Landis was gay.

I hated to see him with the RLM guys, he always seemed like a creepy asshole.
