5 years ago I had a tooth out with a local dentist tooth came out fine .when the anaesthetic wore off had severe burning nerve pain in the top of my head for 3 weeks could not work it was that bad
Went back to the dentist each week telling him I was in severe pain he just threw anti biotics each time that did not help and he never even looked at it

After 4 weeks the pain eased but as months went on it got gradually worse again
Started getting vertigo dizzyness ear pain sinus pain headaches and anxiety from the pain where I couldn't barely manage in work and each day

The docs couldn't understand it kept saying anxiety and given me tabs that done nothing I disagreed
So this went on a year and a half of misdiagnosing which ended in worse pain as time went on
I then ended up getting a sinus operation due to docs views which cost thousands and I taught my days of Pain were over

Still was in severe pain when sinuses healed and looked to go back to the same dentist who taught I had tmj in the jaw he treated me with a splint a plastic mouthpiece and checked it once a month over 6 months which I don't have
but this was over 2 and half nearly 3 years since the dental injury and many misdiagnoses
I contacted him again and said my jaw facial pain is getting constantly worse

He sent me to an orofacial pain specialist
Who said I have trigeminal neuralgia
And the nerve problem brought on sinus pain
But the specialist is covering the dentist in his report
So for 2 years now I'm still with orofacial and have to pay 60 euro a month for medication
Have to take 10 tablets a day which is really
Hard to get threw days they make u groggy depressed brain fog
Have to pay monthly fee of 150 each month to specialist
Got 12 injections Into the head and face and neck to help the pain but nothing is working to cure pain fully
    Tablets provide some help
But it's a long road ahead and has affected my life now and for the future also

With no full cure in sight

When I went to medical negligence to try and sue or make a claim they said it will be impossible to make a claim and u would have had to have made it within 2 years of Injury

Which I was unable to do with misdiagnoses and being treated for the wrong issue
5 years on and pain is getting unbearable

Can anyone that read this story advise
Is there anywhere I can go now to make a claim or just live in pain ?????

Have you went to an ENT specialist? Is it possible you still have a wrong diagnosis.

Sorry to hear that you are suffering op, unfortunately making a claim will not cure your pain and its very unlikely that the dentist did anything wrong. If I was in your situation I'd be asking my GP for a referral to a pain clinic...

I am not sure what is allowed be discussed here but pain is notoriously difficult to diagnose. who do you feel was negligent, why and what different treatment could you have had?

Hi I had been to ent specialist and he done the sinus operation but I'm with the right people now in orofacial pain specialist and I'm also with pain medicine specialist but I'm 2 years with them and the pain is worsening the problem is they have too do things trail and error to find things that help

I feel the dentist is at fault not for causing the nerve problem by the after treatment if I got the right care after the sooner I was with the right people thee better it would have helped me

An extraction will not cause trigeminal neuralgia, it is most commonly caused by blood vessels pressing on the trigeminal nerve. Dry socket is the most common post extraction complication and is unpredictable, the treatment for it is indeed a course of antibiotics. What you are claiming is that an extraction caused something which has its origins/cause in your brain/nervous system. The facial pain specialist is not covering for the dentist, he/she just isn't saying what you want to hear.

The two underlined sentences are the most important. Firstly you have a specialist report which is not in you favour, because this is obviously a very complicated case you would be hoping that the report would have something.

As for the time frame the rule is that you have 2 years from the injury or from when you were made aware of the injury. In your case it is when you were diagnosed by the specialist, if that was more than 2 years ago i'm afraid you have very little hope
