Not at all, point i’m trying to make is we all have some level of talent for running just some people’s are much greater than others. I’ll leave it there.

In context i missed Monday's run too , it was only an easy run and i plan to fix it in on Thursday which was a planned rest day but then that has an knock on effect on Friday, right, so it's not really fixed is it, just patched over! But of course we're not elites and we have to deal in the real world where sometimes patching up is the best we can and it's better than not doing anything. Just more of my random musings really - well done on getting out yesterday, it sounds like you did a tough run

You were well rested for a change, instead of racing with tired legs.

As Arthur Lydiard once said, you cannot train hard and race well at the same time.

I know it goes against the manufacturers guidelines etc....but has anyone washed their runners in the washing machine and lived to tell the tale? I generally don't care what shape the outer of my runners are, but I ran into a quite spectacular pile of cow****e this morning and I ain't handwashing them! I'll get another couple of hundred k out of them so I don't want to ruin them. So have people's runners retained performance after machine washing them?

I washed 2 pairs together last week, threw them in pillowcase each and with a few towels. Didnt notice any wear on them after. Take the soles out when drying

Could anyone here recommend a 20km ish route in/around Naas? I used to live there a good few years ago but never ran that kind of distance.

To get an idea of your race pace, run a couple of shorter races and put the numbers into the MacMillan running calculator. For me it works very well from the 5k to the half marathon. For a full marathon I always ended up running up to 5 minutes slower than the predicted time, but it still gives you a pretty good idea.

Just keep in mind that a 5k time only correlates to your marathon time if you're fully trained for a marathon. Too many guys seem to think that running a certain 5k time automatically means they will be able to run the marathon equivalent, and that's patently not the case.

Waterstown Warriors are registered with Athletics Ireland, they're listed here

They're not on the Find a Club page, but that information is not very accurate.


(There are training groups, eg Hissy Fit, that might blur the line between club and non-club, but they are not registered with AAI and members of the group are not members of AAI)

Cold showers wouldn't cause a cold, a virus would. Your immune system might be a bit lower if you are training hard.
