    Hi,

I'm going to be moving into a new build soon enough (2-3 months) and would ideally like to end up with a nice 65" OLED with a receiver and dolby atmos. I don't want to cheap out on these which means I'll be looking to buy things in stages my plan is as follows:

    1. Lay down speaker wire under skirting boards, and get by with an old 1080p set I have (furnishing new houses is spendy :P).

    2. Buy a LG OLED65C8PLA www.richersounds.ie/p-203217-401878.aspx

    3. Wait a few months and buy Denon AVRX3400 https://www.richersounds.ie/p-13062-avrx3400.aspx

    4. Wait a few more months and buy a speaker set.

    Questions as follows:

    1. What's the best bang for buck speaker set for the Denon AVRX3400?

    2. Can the receiver be used with the inbuilt tv speaker until I can afford said speakers?

    3. Newbie question, but are speaker cables generally the same standard? I understand there's quality issues but what I mean are they equivalent to a USB-a cable.

    4. Roughly how much speaker wire would I need for a living room 3.78m x 4.88m?

    Hi Creamy Goodness.

    Thanks for the post.

The Denon AVRX2400 is a great unit but it is due to finish up very soon as its replacement is due start of September the AVRX3500.
In terms of speakers to pair with it. Are you afer large floorstanding speaker like the Q Acoustics 3050 5.1 pack priced at £849
    https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/speaker-packages/q-acoustics-3050-3010-3090c-centre-and-3070s-subwoofer-graphite.html

Or the Monitor Audio Bronze 5 5.1 priced at £1486.00
    https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/speaker-packages/monitor-audio-bronze-b5-5-1-black.html

Or are you after stand mount setup like the Monitor Audio Mass 5.1 priced at £599.00
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-200190-mass-51.aspx

Monitor Audio Bronze 2 5.1 priced at £1216.00
    https://www.richersounds.com/tv-home-cinema/speaker-packages/monitor-audio-bronze-2-5-1-black.html

You can still use the speakers built into your TV if there are no speakers connected to the receiver as it has a pass through feature which passes the audio through the amp and onto the television. If speakers where connected you would keep the TV volume to Zero.

Speaker cable come in different qualities and can run into hundreds of pounds. They are nothing similar to a USB A cable at all unfortunately.
The most common one we sell is copper based the Symphony 100 priced at £1.19 per meter
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-900187-symphony-100.aspx

There are silver based cable the ultra micro priced at £3.19
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-910743-ultra-micro.aspx

Regarding measurements for speaker cable you would need to measure this up yourself unfortunately. I would not want to guess and get it incorrect.
You would need to think of where the speakers will be placed and where they are in relation to where the receiver will be placed.
Usually 30-35 meters is enough but its better that you try and measure up to avoid any errors as i would never recommend to join cables that are not long enough.

The subwoofer runs on a different type of cable to the speakers. It uses a single phono cable. We sell a 7.5m one for £19.95
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-10538-aud100-75m-sub-cable.aspx

The 65C8 that you mention is one heck of a television. We have the 55" version running in our demo room and its fantastic!!!
Stock has ran out on these at the moment and we are currently chasing an ETA on these.

I hope this is of help.

Let me know your thoughts and any questions please drop me a post.

Sorry for coming back to this after so long thanks so much for a very detailed reply Kenny.

Has the Denon AVRX3500 come into stock yet, can't see it on the website. Just trying to keep my budge spreadsheet up to date.

With regards to the USB-A cable comment I made I didn't really explain it well. What I meant was if I was to buy the Cambridge Audio silver speaker cable, lay it under the floor and then 12 months down the line get a speaker set/amp that it will work. I guess what I meant by USB-A would be is speaker cable ubiquitous as a USB-A cable.

I'll be snagging the house this coming week so I'll be sure to measure for the speaker cable, and I'll put an order in soon.

I've also been looking at other tv's; what's the quick 10 second difference between the 65E8PLA and the 65C8PLA apart from the price of course, they look a very similar set.

    Cheers again.

    Hi Creamy Goodness,

The Denon AVRX3500 is now in stock at £899. I have that in stock and ready to ship.

From the reading I've done on using speaker cable as USB cable, due the difference in gauges you wouldn't be able to use speaker cable for USB-A.

In terms of specification the E8 and the C8 are both quite similar, they both use the Alpha 9 processor, both support all HDR content and are both part of the ThinQ AI system however the E8 has a much better design with the Picture On Glass design. It's ultra thin and does look stunning but the panels and tech inside are quite similar.

Let me know what you think!

    Kind regards

I think we were getting confused with the conflation of speaker cable and USB cable - from what I ready you are asking if all speaker cables are inter-changeable?

..if this is your query, the answer is in essence, yes - however there are huge quality issues between speaker cables and whilst pretty much any speaker cable will work between and amp and speakers there are huge quality gains by stepping up the specified cable slightly from a basic cable to a slightly higher grade, of course we do have to sound a note of caution as the law of diminishing returns does kick in at a price level with cables and you have to carefully balance this with your amp and selection - any of the guys will be happy to advise when you specify your final amp and speaker set-up!

Hope we have ( finally) got the right end of the stick!

Good to hear the 3500 is in stock, it looks a beast. Thanks for the explainer on the two sets. whilst they're quite similar it's still a tough decision to make :).

Thanks John, yeah that's what I meant. If I bought speaker cable now, it wouldn't be obsolete by the time I get the receiver 4-6 months down the line. I'd would be looking at a middle of the road type of cable, good enough to drive a good sound but not "I need to rob a bank" to afford it. the CA silver that was first recommend looks good.

I'll be in touch guys, and thanks again.

Hi guys, I've received the ultra micro from yourselves (super fast shipping I have to say). Just wondering about termination. How do I figure out the +/- of the cables? There doesn't seem to be any distinctive marks on the cables sleeve (quite possible I've totally missed this too).

    Hi Creamy Goodness,

The Ultra Micro does have +/- marks on it but to be honest you'd need bionic eyes to be able to see them. This particular batch seems to have faded print as well which makes it nigh on impossible. The easiest way to distinguish is the cable with the majority of the writing on it (Ultra Micro Loudspeaker Cable - or words to that effect) is the + positive end.

Let me know if you have any issues with the wiring!

    Kind regards

    David

OP, it may also be a good idea to run conduit under your floor. You can then upgrade cable in the future by tying the new cable to the old and pulling through.

bumping this thread to say thanks for all the recommendations on this thread. I have the the Denon AVRX3500 and went for the updated Q-Acoustics 3050i (link).

They sound great and have won over the missus.

Is there a pair of stands for the back speakers you'd recommend to get, they're currently on the floor and would like to elevate them, was thinking of buying these

    Hi Creamy Goodness,

Glad to hear they've gone down well!

Those stands are actually designed for the 3010i and 3020i so with either of those as rears upu'd do well with those stands.

Let me know what you think.

    Kind regards

    Hey Guys,

    Back again

looking to buy this; https://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203217-lg-oled65c8pla-65-inch-oled-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-smart-tv-freeview-play.aspx is this still the best in class in the 65" in that price range or is there anything better? Also is this in stock if I bought today?

Also - this may be a bit of a newbie question - but do I need better HDMI cables? I'm guessing I'll just need one that goes from the Denon AVRX3500 and the TV? Could you recommend one as well?

Anything else you could suggest to buy at the same time that I may or may not need?

    Hi Creamy Goodness.

There would be nothing better than the 65C8PLA without spending more money.
The 65C8PLA is a fantastic television and worth every penny in my opinion!

It is in stock and ready to ship if purchased today.

For you HDMI cables you will require 4K rated ones. I went for the Audioquest Pearl's myself and they made a difference over my old QED ones.
Pearl 1m priced at 29 Euro

    Hi Guys.

Back again. Super happy with the whole setup so far, I'm thinking of hanging the TV on the wall (currently it's just standing on a IKEA cabinet) what's the best bracket to hang to the wall (it's just an internal wall, no concrete if that matters?).

Also, I'm half tempted to upgrade to a 5.1.2 system, these seem to be the ones (I'm guessing you'd recommend) to get, would these sit well on top of QAcoustics 3050i front speakers or would they be better on the cabinet.

    Cheers.

    Hey Creamy.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your new setup.

For hanging the TV on a wall there is the Sanus VLL5 priced at £59.95. I could offer at £45.00
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-12678-sanus-vll5-slim-flat-bracket-51-80-inch-tv-bracket.aspx

For hanging the above or any bracket you would need to make sure you are fixing the bracket to the joists in the wall.

The Q7000 speakers linked above would not suit for Atmos speakers unfortunately.
You would require an upward firing pair of Atmos speakers to get the correct effect.

Something like the Eltax Monitor ATM priced at £129
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203576-eltax-monitor-atm-dolby-atmos-speakers-per-pair.aspx

Or the Elac Debut A4 mk2 priced at £249
    https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203404-elac-debut-a4-mk2-atmos-dolby-atmos-speakers-per-pair.aspx

Either of those two sets of speakers would sit on top of your 3050i's.

The below link is a little bit about the Atmos setup from Dolby:

    Hey guys,

Long time no chat 😀, just looking for some advice.

I'm getting a tv unit built on to the wall (never got round to it from my last post) and the cabinet maker has suggested that I need a tv bracket that extends out (believe it's called a cantilever one) could you recommend one that would work with the 65" LG OLED.

Also when I originally bought the speakers I went for the big 3050i's but they unfortunately won't work with the room anymore (room is too narrow to build around them unfortunately) would these be a good substitute? https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203267-q-acoustics-3020i-black-pair-inc-6-year-guarantee-speakers-per-pair.aspx I'd pair them with two atmos speakers like the Eltax's https://www.richersounds.ie/p-203576-eltax-monitor-atm-dolby-atmos-speakers-per-pair.aspx

I'd be also looking to grab some speaker wire and banana plugs and maybe a new cable for the subwoofer (as I'm not sure where it'll be situated in relation to the receiver (can't seem to find those cables on the site).

Is this a good pairing to make up for the loss?

    Hi Creamy Goodness.

Hope you have been keeping well and thanks for coming back to us.

A cantilever to fit the 65" OLED would be the Sanus VLF728 coming in at 195 Euro

The 3010i will be a good alternative to the 3050i. However you will loss some of your bass due to the smaller cabinet and only the one driver. Although if you are using a subwoofer then it will pick up the lower bass tones.

The Eltax will add in the extra depth for Atmos and they perform well very, currently in stock and priced at 159 Euro

For a sublink cable, Cambridge Audio do a 7.5 meter one for just 27 Euro

Speaker cable, you could use the Cambridge Symphony 200 which is priced at 1.99 Euro Per Meter.

For something a little better there is the QED performance Micro priced at 2.99 Euro per meter.

    Let me know your thoughts.

All looks good, quick follow on question what's the main difference between the 3010i and 3020i? I compared them on site and bar a slight weight difference I'm struggling to see it. I was just going with the higher the model number and the more cost (albeit marginal) = better speakers.

    Hi Creamy Goodness.

The main difference between the 3010i and 3020i would be that the 3020i can deliver deeper bass and will have a bit more detail.

The 3020i are better than the 3010i and for only 20 Euro of a difference the 3020i would be the ones to go for if they fit into your unit.

    Thanks Kenny,

Order placed (order #: 153990) but like a dummy I ordered two of the CA subwoofer cables, could I amend the order to only include one? Thanks.

edit: I also ordered the wrong colour of speakers for the 3020i's. Would it be best I give the store a bell tomorrow?

    Hi Creamy Goodness,

I've changed the speakers to the Grey Graphite and I've cancelled one of the sublink cables and refunded the difference back to your card.

If you have any issues at all please don't hesitate to drop me a post and thanks again for the order!

    Kind regards

    David
