I got talking to an Arsenal fan today and he said he expects Jose to be gone soon and I agreed it’s possible, but then he asked “Who replaces him?” to which I answered “Well that’s the problem.”

He then said “Arsene Wenger is available and I bet you he’d take it.” I was a bit gob smacked because I’m not sure that he’s wrong.
What's Antonio Conte at these days?

Seriously? Wenger and Conte are probably the two least adventurous managers.

If the club was to replace Mourinho, I would expect them to go for a manager who likes to play attacking football - Zidane is still on his holidays.

I think we underachieved adox, the squad is capable of much better than it showed and we dropped some god awful points to some ****e teams. Those 9 points dropped before Xmas and City at OT in particular stand out.

What I meant is we overachieved in relation to our level of performance.
I think the team can play much better but even at that will struggle to finish second again this season.

Was it not against weaker teams sitting deep and we did not have the quality from the flanks to make the difference.

We are going into this season with the same problem which is no quality from full backs and no right winger.

Sanchez and Fred will make a big difference i believe but I don't think much will change on regards the quality of football.

The fact is we don't have the players to play the football we want to see.

We overachieved last year, Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool had a better starting 11 and it looks it will be the same this year.

The ambition of this transfer window sets us up to struggle for a top 4 finish.

Also the idea that the word defensive even comes up with regards to those games is an absolute joke. People just regurgitating what the media saying without any mention of the fact United dominated possession in most games.

The attacking play was directionless at times indeed but that doesn't make it defensive by any means. Certainly a lot more chances being created than under LVG.

What I find odd is no team has been in for Toby Alderweirald, well not that anyone really knows anyway but for a top CB in the last 12 mths of his contract and publically said he wants away.

I will cry if i see BBC Breaking News: United lodge 80 millon bid for Maguire at 4.30 today or any time today really

Yes similarly I probably should have said underperformed. It was always going to take improved player performances and a couple of signings to close that gap to city.

Toby and William won't make much of a difference if we're still in here complaining about Pogba, Martial & Sanchez game after game.

I agree mostly but am hopeful that We will see a huge improvement with Sanchez. He’s looked very sharp in pre season and more like the player we thought we’d signed.

Crazy talk! Liverpool began last season without a recognised right back, a proven liability at left back (Moreno), a goalkeeper (Mignolet) and central defenders (Lovren,Klavan/Matip) that suffer from serious concentration lapses. Until Van Dijk was signed in January the team was a shambles defensively. Coutinho left in January but was never replaced.

They were much better after the January transfer window but beyond the starting 11 there was no depth to the squad. The media is all talk about Liverpool being title rivals to Man City but in all seriousness they have only added a goalkeeper and replaced three players.
    Keita has replaced Coutinho (Barcelona)
    Fabinho has replaced Can (Juventus)
Shaqiri has replaced Oxlade-Chamberlain (out injured for the season)

The squad depth issues remain - Van Dijk is the only fit central defender in the senior team for the start of the season so a player from the under age teams is likely to make their debut at the weekend.

Just going to reiterate a point I've made before but he's just not as good as he's been made out to be on this thread. So far no club has deemed him worth the money Spurs are looking for.

Expect nothing to happen now with transfers so just the presser at 9.30 to keep an eye on today.

I don't think it's that he's not worth it, it's more that they know he can be got for £25m next summer or probably £35-£40m in January.

I'd guess a lot of clubs are thinking why spend £70m on him now when we can get him for half that in a few months and spend the money saved on other players.

According to various reports it's agreeing a price with Tottenham is the issue.

He'll be available on a free transfer next summer - they'll be lucky to get £18M for him in January.

They have an extra year option with a release clause of 25m.

No he won't because Spurs have an option to add a year extension and that activates his release clause.

Wasn't it reported that the clause had to be activated this summer?

You mean the whole world stops when the English window closes :D

In fairness, I reckon there is going to be some huge moves toward the end of the European window, Reports of PSG looking at Dembele which could mean that Mbappe/Neymar to be moved on. English clubs going to be left with egg on their face by the end of August.

Simon Stone now saying Zouma is a left field target today. Says Jose signed him for Chelsea originally and likes him still.

Pogba. L'Equipe go massive and perhaps reveal crux of issue.

    ‘Barca, the Pogbluff?’

'Alexis Sanchez earns more than €20m. This didn’t go unnoticed in the Pogba camp, led by his agent Mino Raiola.’

    Transfer chance ‘almost nil’.http://sportwitness.co.uk/didnt-go-unnoticed-pogbas-camp-shaken-sanchez-wages-manchester-united/ … #mufc

But he'll be coming in somewhere in the middle of what we already have ability wise?

Personally think Zouma is on par with Bailly and above the rest, that’s just my opinion though, isn’t he a bit injury prone though?
