leak from attic

came home from hols to find a large water stain on bathroom ceiling. the water tank is above it in attic. got up into attic and all the fixings are dry but the stand on which the tank is positioned is wet as is the ceiling board and insulation but only at the ballcock end of the tank. the waterline hasnt risen above the overflow. could there be a crack in the tank ?

Potentially a leak at the ballcock valve. Might just need tightening, or may need replacing.

But could also be a crack in the tank.

If the tank itself isn't wet, then it may be a slow drip from the inflow pipe where it's attached to the tank.

no sign of any leak at the ballcock. fixings are fine. its just at that end of the tank that the boards underneath are wet

Definitely not just condensation?
Is the tank wrapped in insulation ?

tank is wrapped in insulation. but if it was condensation, why only at one end of the tank ?

Pull all the insulation away from the tank and carefully inspect the tank.
