Spectral was a film I kept waiting for to start; it was just a series of intros and faffing around, before wrapping it up with a sudden "oh by the way it was caused by this. The end." The FX were pretty good and had a Blomkamp style grit to it, but had no actual story or narrative.

I watched Miracle Mile on Netflix and very much enjoyed it - a man accidentally learns of impending nuclear war with Soviet russia (it was made in the 1980s) and sets about trying to evacuate Los Angelas with his girlfriend.

The story is a little daft and it looks like an 80s B-movie but it's very good
It's an old cult classic. I've even heard of a book written on it.

    Here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15803980-miracle-mile

After having thought about it, it's best watched without any spoilers for sure!

Christ I sat through the first half of the new Iliza Schlesinger special.... Just painful. An unbelievably unfunny person

    Watched extinction...
Disappointing, waste of a good cast and decent premise and a decent budget.
it also basically shows you the entire film in flash forwards... The 'twist' ain't much of one either it's basically humans... On Mars with synths rising up in the past then having their memory wiped
The story is a bit all over the place and jesus so many random slow mo parts.
It also has the most annoying child actors in any film I have seen in recent times.

Altered Carbon renewed for 2nd series with Anthony Mackie taking over the role from Joel Kinnaman.
Netflix is bringing back sci-fi drama Altered Carbon for a second season with a new leading man.

Captain America star Anthony Mackie will take over the leading role of Takeshi Kovacs, stepping in for season one star Joel Kinnaman. Additionally, Alison Schapker (Scandal, The Flash, Fringe, Alias) has joined the drama from Skydance Television as co-showrunner alongside Laeta Kalogridis. A season two episode count or return date have not yet been determined for the pricey, effects-heavy drama.

She was alright on the Joe Rogan Podcast back in 2013, and again in 2014.
By Nov 2017 she was on again and was just a total Cunnt!

She holds the record for the worst like/dislike Ratio ever iirc @ 7k Likes to 17k Dislikes.
Got crucified in the comments. Worst example of LA influence.

    Fukkin painful...

Heh, its so cool, that show can literally go on forever if it wanted to :D

Though i would have preferred someone other than Anthony Mackie, i dont mind him, hes just not lead role material from what ive seen of him :(

For all it’s faults I kinda liked Extinction. It’s so cheap and the writing isn’t great but it reminded me of The Outer Limits and it had a certain charm to it that I can’t quite put my finger on.

Turned this off after twenty minutes. Pacing was all over the place. And that opening monologue was cringe inducing. Glad I didn't stick it out.

That's a very interesting decision, I know they had pushed it back which made sense due to the Disney version being such a success. I think Serkis has said it gave them more time to perfect the animation as well but to release it on Netflix. I know it was Serkis's production company, could it be they couldn't get a big studio to distribute.

Warner Bros was all set to release this in October after several delays. It's obviously a flop in the making so they've sent it out to pasture. And even Netflix won't release it until next year, so sounds like there's serious problems.

The Detectorists is such a lovely little TV show. Leads me to guess Crook had a bigger creative influence on The Office than given credit for.

Hurrrah! Someone else who like Miracle Mile.

I know I recommended it to some people who like apocalypse movies and they hated it, but I think it has a sort of clammy atmosphere that does build the tension.

The film lived in development hell for some years and probably suffered for that.

    Plus it has Toby Jones.

The episode where he sings his love song perched on a high chair is absolutely classic.

Anyone interested in a slow burning, conventional thriller with a dark, gritty atmosphere should check out Sweet Virginia with Jon Bernthal. Don’t worry he’s really good in it and playing against type as a washed up old rodeo rider now running a motel. His usual type of role (semi psychotic etc) is played here by Christopher Abbot who is excellent.

Oooh, I must re-watch this! I caught it at the Edinburgh Film festival last year and thought it was really good.

I liked Extinction quite a lot. It kept me interested throughout and made the most of its low budget. The third act plot swerve elevated it further. Decent sci fi effort.

Watched it on BBC last year. Amazing documentary.

    The Vietnam War.
    Amazing is the word!
Hard to watch anything else after. They all seem substandard by comparison.
Currently watching Drug Lords.. concise and interesting.
