Perjury.

    In Ireland, is perjury a criminal offence in that name or does it reside under some other title ?

    Is it a offence under statute or common law ? As far as I can see it seems to be a common law offence handed down from the Star Chamber ?

    Perjury is currently a common law offence but the DOJ do want to introduce it as a statutory offence.

    Perjury is a common law offence, as ohnonotgmail says, but it has nothing to do with Star Chamber (or, as we say in Ireland, Castle Chamber). I don't know where you got that idea. The whole point of the Court of Star Chamber is that it wasn't constrained by the common law.

    I would have to dig it out but I seem to recall it somewhere in Smith & Hogan on Criminal Law...
