ACCA Lecturer Review

    Hi All,

I just completed by ACCA journey and wanted to give a quick synopsis of the lecturers I had over the past two years. I studied all through distance learning. Obviously the below is purely subjective.

F5 - Jim Daly, GCD, really excellent. Revision weekend was particularly good with heavy focus on completing past exam questions. Enthusiastic and energetic.

F6 - Mel Kilkenny, City, Really disappointing given the positive feedback from some on this forum. Found the notes error stricken and lectures scattered.

F7 - Garret Mulvin, First Intuition, Excellent. Very organised and accurate material. Very exam focused.

F8 - Umesh Rana, GCD, Decent quality. The material for F8 is boring enough (found P7 much more interesting from a material point of view) which probably impacted on my 'enjoyment' of the lectures. Lecturer was interesting though and gave some good real world examples to illustrate points.

F9 - Garret Mulvin, First Intuition, again as F7 above, excellent lecturer and well delivered course.

P1 - Self Study, would recommend self study for P1. Passed this paper after two days of study. Very much applied common sense.

P2 - Reg Callaghan, GCD, Huge syllabus and is up there with P6 and P7 in terms of the volume of material you have to get through. Found Reg good enough but I benefited hugely from the fact that the F7 material I had studied previously was relatively fresh in my head.

P3 - Owen O'Reilly, City, Really excellent and brought a lot of enthusiasm to the lectures. Probably one of the more interesting subjects.

P6 - Edel Walsh, GCD, poor enough to be honest. Often didn't reply to email queries. Ended up going to a separate tax grind instead of the actual GCD revision weekend.

P7 - Suzanne Burdis, GCD, couldn't say I enjoyed these lecturers although the material was actually interesting enough.

Anyways said I would post the above as I relied heavily on this forum for recommendations and someone may find the above beneficial at some point.

hah!, have to sort booking that one myself shortly! :D

I'll be going to the 'only one' (as I assume you mean the one based out of DBS).

Did F6 with Edel Walsh & found her decent enough for that one, surprised you found her poor, maybe she's not as proficient with the advanced syllabus?

Anyone else reading this thread do P2 with 'the hustler'? :D

Just adding my tuppence. Reg Callanan P2 (GCD) ans Shaun Browne p7 (City colleges) were the best lecturers i had. Very exam focused and a great way of teaching the material.

Other lecturers i had which werent so good were Liam Doran p4 (flies true the material and not very exam focused) Dave O donoghue f7 and mel kilkenny

Gerry Fahy should be the only option for P2 and F7. He was in DBS but has now set up Professional Accoutancy Training with Terry Lawless, another great lecturer.

Patrick Lynch (DBS) is one of my all time favorite lecturers. He's a little out there but spot on with his notes! Always gets backs to emails and very encouraging!

    Excellent resource MayoRoadRunner.

Considering First Institute for F9 but I do rather personal classes. You might confirm what opinion you did with them, the GoLive or pre-recorded classes?

I notice someone recommended Mel Kilkenny, he seems to have relatively mixed reviews.

    Hi folks,

I found out on Fri that PAT won’t be running a course for Advance Performance Management the March 2020 exams. Has anyone any experience/recommendations with the lectures listed below:

    GCC - Jim Daly

    ICD - Martin Corboy

Or would it be worth my while waiting for tuition to be provided for the June 2020 exams with PAT (Noel Ryan - Previously of DBS) ?

    Many thanks!

I have to say that I have heard great things about the PAT lecturers but I was stung by them in August - I noticed from their website that I could not book the lectures for F9 (FM) but they had the time-table up (that suited my plans and also had a good lecturer). So I emailed them asking why I couldn't book it online (no tick box), they updated the website & I went in and booked it on the Friday (course was starting the following week) and after I paid, I got a call from them saying that the course wasn't going ahead. I thought it was bad form from a new college (with experienced lecturers) Hope that they improve their processes and I understand that it may have been due to low figures and it wasn't worth their while for the cost of doing the course. But build up a good reputation as a college as they already have good reputations for their lecturers (from the posters on here who have recommended quiet a few of them for the different courses)
