As things stand this summer has been an utter failure.

Very little to be positive about right now going into new season.

Even Fred signing has been bascially forgotten about because it won't be enough as things stand.

I can't see us getting top four I know that's a crazy statement before season even starts but where so far behind.

Na not that crazy, said it a while back, we are in a battle for top 4 no doubt about it

Shape and movement terrible as usual, but playing at tempo in those conditions in the second match was never going to happen.

Still very worrying that it's the same boring, patternless, predictable crap we've seen the last two seasons.

Gonna need HUGE changes in two weeks time.

    Two weeks.

This is what I meant with my post. It's a pre-season match at the end of the day, all you're looking for is for the squad to show some fitness (which is a given at this level) and then to show some structure in how they're going to play but we showed none.

Too much ponderous crap which imo stems from not having a creative ball player that wants the ball deep every time because they're confident they know how to move us forward. I have sympathy for the likes of Martial still because, even in games like tonight, as a LW he still has to come all the way to nearly the halfway line in order to receive the ball. It makes absolutely no sense, he doesn't want the ball there and he can't expect to be effective getting it there.

I honestly can't believe Shaw and Darmian are still at the club it's beyond embarrassing at this point especially with Shaw at least Darmian can stay fit.

You would love to know the actual truth behind the reason where stuck with so many average players and can't get rid of them.

It's obviously holding up players coming in as well.

Jaysus Jose said we have to get used to Valencia getting injured.

What does he even mean by that.

He meant it like “Val is injured so we will have to get used to that”

Basically he’s out for the tour I’d say so he will have to get used to the idea of not playing him or having him for the start of the season

Darmian is a good player. Just doesn't have the athleticism to be the team's only outlet on the right. He's better technically than Valencia and with a proper right winger to play off would look a lot better imo.

What does he even mean by that.

He said.that last season we could see the beginning of Valencia injury problems and said that we can get used to seen it again this year.

Poor game, Pereira and Sanchez had good enough game but rest all were decent to poor.

Started well with lot of movement but then faded away. It was a preseason game with bunch of youngsters and fringe players, so don't have tp panic yet.

Having said that I have no idea how and why club/Jose thinks CB is the priority position when we need better fullbacks and right winger. Maguire was very good playing for Hull and played well against us, we didn't even bother to sign him when he was available for 15-17 million but now we want to sign him when he will cost at least 50 million? That's very poor judgement, something that is very common with ManUtd in last 10 years.

Well if you look back at the links to Alderweirald, (and Bonucci more recently)they seem to go back a long time so Jose obviously has issues with what we have there. I personally don’t believe we are in for Maguire anyways. We have been linked to commanding CB’s before Maguire had a good WC so i think it’s one of the positions that Jose feels he needs to improve on(someone to Marshal his defence). Imo the Maguire links are a smokescreen ala Morata/Lukaku (I hope to god I’m right)

I don’t think Maguire is good enough to play for us in a 2 anyways as our fullbacks push up and that leaves him too exposed. I think he is a better player in a 3 man defence and if we really are going for him it would signal a move to 3 at the back, again I personally don’t see that happening.

Also, the Pereira comments are just José saying that he has to play the simpler/better option rather than trying to take on everything and do everything.

Those links are started this summer?

Last summer we were linked with Lindelof for 6 months and signed him.

Andy Mitten also reported that we have no interest in Toby and Sandro.

    Magurie it is then.

I like Maguire, reminds me of our boy Jonesy at times, but I fail to see how he will significantly change the outcome of our season.

No problem bringing in another CB, but every year people point that to our saving grace. Another year another CB, while we overlook the full-backs and right-winger issues.

    Maguire is overrated.

he's a big guy who can head the ball really well, is quite brave on the ball (while not great on it), and can defend on the front foot/

he turns like an oil tanker though.

the rave reviews he was getting are confusing to me.

Bizarre comments from Jose about Valencias injury.

The world cup had made me forget what a depressing manager the 2018 Jose is :(

I find it hard to make judgements on the overall play and result when most of the match was played by at best the B team, and mostly by C and D team players.

Looking at individual preformances, I was happy with Sanchez. He looked hungry and energetic, constantly pushing forward aNd trying to beat his man. Yeah, he gives the ball away a lot, but that's cause he's actually trying to do something with it.

As opposed to Martial who again looked utterly disinterested. Him and Shaw should be pushing themselves big time to either prove themselves or put themselves into a position to get better deals elsewhere, but neither looked at all bothered yesterday. Which is incredibly frustrating.

Herrera and Mata were their usual ok selves, nothing special, but not doing much technically wrong.

Roll on getting the actual first team back though.

I thought Pereira looked good, but then Jose rears his ugly head and said he was ok and needs to play simpler. Does that mean he tried to be too creative? Tried to push the play on? Is this basically the same problem Jose has with Pogba? Jose just wants his midfielders playing 5 yard passes?

Jose should sign Cleverley. He can keep it very simple. Pereira played too many forward passes and between the lines for Jose's linking.

Or a balance between the two. Several times, Pereira was trying to ping 40 yard passes that were impossible to get on the end of. They're great if you do one a game that comes off. Less when you try 5 and none do.

Fair. If that is what Jose means.

Have the press been briefed about Martial?

    From Redcafe.
"More leaks coming out this morning. In the last half hour the Mail, MEN, Telegraph, Guardian, Mirror and Express have all run similar stories that United will sell Martial if he wants to leave and they get a good offer."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭Adamocovic

It will be interesting what sort of chance Pereira will get this year. For a long while we've been hoping to see him given a good chance to break into the team. Realistically after two seasons playing at La Liga now is the time, and I have a feeling if he does break into the side he could find himself at the end of José's weird comments (that I think he uses to fire players up to prove him wrong).

I've always thought of him as a skilful, creative player. So him playing a deeper more simpler role that José requires may be difficult for him, just to contain himself.

Yeah, seems to have been a brief. Issue it it also seems to imply we'll sell but only if they pay round 80m for him, and that it is possibly Woddy is pricing him out of the move cause no one will pay that.
