In all fairness city smashed all records last season. There would be plenty of seasons united would of been there or thereabouts on the points they got.

I’m hearing this a lot lately from a lot of fans of different sides, but it’s a largely irrelevant point. Arsenal won a league with 78 points in 97/98, Man Utd won a league in the treble winning season with 79 points.
Each season is taken on its merits, Man Utd and the rest of the league weren’t good enough to win the league last season regardless of how many points they got.

United finished 2nd in the league.

Picking out their points gap to city and refusing to awknowledge the points record is just selective cherry picking of facts to suit the narrative you want to push. City broke the records, accept that fact on its merit, no other team ever matched their stats....

But that's what United have to beat now. It really doesn't matter how many seasons last year's total would have had United in the race. Current day, it isn't good enough.

I think it's probably unlikely City will have another 100 point season as hopefully teams figure out what not to do against them but it's better to assume they will keep up that standard and try to beat that target.

Darmian going the other way probably swung things in United's favour.....If the transfer happens.

"United consider a £65 million bid for Harry Maguire". The Mail.

Consider it lads and forget about it. £65 million is insane.

For an extra 10m we can get Alderweireld.

Crazy how if a player wants out with us we have to drop the price, with spurs the price skyrockets haha

Well it depends on demand/quality. If DDG wanted out you can bet your arsé we'd be demanding £100m.

I reckon the links to Maguire is to get spurs to drop their price a bit, if they don’t sell him this season he could leave for 26m next year.. there isn’t really anyone else being linked to him either so it’s better for Spurs to drop the price and sell him at 50 odd million rather than him not signing a contract and then losing him for half that next year

So in short the club are playing chicken with Spurs & Levy over Alderweireld?

    Risky move that..

Or Levy could say if that goon Maguire is worth £65m then Toby is worth £100m.

I doubt there'll be any major movement in the Alderweld transfer until the final week of the window. If there is interest from us it's just a game of bluff until that week. It's a high stakes game with potentially upwards of 20M at stake. Spurs look like they won't need a replacement for him so if it goes ahead expect it to happen ala Dimitar Berbitov. Levy must be an absolute nightmare to deal with I'd say

Tbf he can think that all he wants but the facts of the matter is that if he doesn’t sell him he either has to give in and give him a new improved (he’s asking for high wages) contract or lose him for 26m next summer.

Oh I know that. Is he even on £150k there?

Is Kane even in That? Think he might be after his new contract but can't imagine anyone else near that.

Think he is on about 75/80k at the mo, has an offer for 100k I think it was. Looking for anything between 150k-200k depending on where you read, I’d say he is looking for around 150k imo and don’t think Spurs would give him that.. United would no problem

United, City and Chelsea would give him the £150k. Liverpool probably a little less due to his age (VVD is on around £160k and Salah about £180k I think).

If Spurs don't start upping their wages they could see a few players heads turned.

I find it interesting how so many seem to have little issue with how our transfer window is going. All of the usual cries of "you don't know what is happening behind the scenes", "there is time left", "other clubs haven't done anything either", "there are reasons for it all I tell you".

I am no chicken little when it comes to transfer windows but seriously lads, it seems pretty damn obvious to me right now that the club is sleep walking into a big problem.

6 months ago everybody knew we needed 6/7 players, that we badly needed two full backs, a right winger, both a Modric type midfielder and more depth in midfield, a back up striker and then also better quality at center back. We knew this from a long, long way back. We also needed rid of a laundry list of useless characters that had let us down time and again.

Less than 3 weeks remaining in the transfer window and we have Fred and a kid with effectively zero senior experience.

Lads, anybody who thinks we will be sorting all our issues in the next 2 weeks needs their heads examined. And don't tell me I can't say that because I don't know what is happening behind the scenes, shove that because we have all seen dozens of transfer windows, we know how they play out and can usually recognise what way the wind is blowing. And right now the wind is blowing directly at a disappointing window that is going to dictate our entire season.

Was obvious last summer as well before season even started.

Just cant get excited for new season with jose in charge but we'll see what happens. He might surprise us all

I trust Jose to get the most out of our poor defensive personnel, and to get the least out of our more than good enough attacking personnel.

Massively indifferent to the upcoming season, signings or no signings.

In all seriousness I agree buck, one part of me has an awful feeling we are done for the window. There is just that stupid little transfer muppet in me that hopes we are not

Regardless of what people want or think we need, we were never going to sign 6/7 first team players. 5 would have been great but 4 is probably realistic.
