Oil fumes catch can

I installed an oil fumes catch can on my diesel Toyota Fortuner (Hilux estate here in Australia) at about 10,500km on the clock. I had some free time this weekend and decided to drain it after driving about 4200km.

For those who don't know what an oil fumes catch can does, it basically filters oil fume particles out of the exhaust gas before it goes back into the engine. It prevents the oily fumes sticking to the inlet, collecting soot and choking your engine, leading to performance issues, EGR valves getting clogged, DPF's not working like they should (which is a huge problem on Toyotas new 2.8L Diesel engine in the new Hilux, Prado & Fortuner...but only in Australia for some weird reason. It's common for vehicles to be on their 3rd DPF under warranty by 50,000km).

Anyway, I got about 110ml of oil/sludge and water out of the catch can after 4200km. Granted, the water is from cold morning starts and condensation which would be worse in Ireland. Thats about 1 litre of crap going back into the engine every 50,000km on average. I reckon about 30% was water that came out.

    I've got a Mann & Hummel Provent 200.

A few friends have the HPD catch cans.
