Which proven solid right back would you go for?

Croatia RB is better than what we currently have.don't you think ? Trippier is better than what we have.. ..why were we not in for Liverpool left full before he went to pool. Tierney off Celtic looks a good left full.. better than we have. But hey I don't get paid mega bucks to make these calls :)

I wonder what will happen with Dembele if they get Willian?
Wouldn't mind a loan for him with a view to a permanent deal, that lad has massive potential.

I said that before to friends,if he's available then the club should go for him.

Barcelona have made a 3rd bid in excess of £55 million for Willian.
For that price, I hope United don't try to bid against them.

If Barca think he's worth it, that's good enough for me.

This is the crux of the issue I feel.

Other clubs haven't messed around with money searching for value where it can't be found. Liverpool and City have just paid fees and got on with it whereas we're (reportedly) being put off by 5/10 million here and there for players like Alderweireld who could improve our team immensely if brought in.

Imo van djik is the best cb in the league and cost 75m.

Alderweild is 2 years older, in the last year of his contract and spurs are looking for 75m as well.

Too be honest i wouldnt go near levy for that price. Plenty of other excellent defenders for half the price and age

That's fine if it's your opinion, to me he's the best in the league. But in any event I think most people can agree that he's one of the best CB's in the world and, most importantly, far beyond anything that we currently have.

Like I said in the last post, none of us know the true fee. Some reports suggest one "up to" £75 million, others say "upwards" of £50 million, others again say something different.

But the facts remain the same, we desperately need a quality CB and the reasonable price that a club can expect to pay for such based on recent transfers is within the £50-75 million range. There is one available for that price and we're not, as it appears, willing to go for it. His contract status doesn't affect how much we need a CB even though it can be used in any negotiation for his transfer.

And what other excellent defenders are available that are both half his age and half his price? There's so few of them that most top clubs in Europe have been willing to bend over backwards just to have a shot at one these past few years.

I'd have Alderweireld ahead of him but agree with you wouldnt want to be paying similar price as Pool did for VVD.

Cant see United paying 30m + for a 15 year old :pac:

but still... what top class CBs in their early/mid twenties are you seeing available for 35million?

City had to spend 57million to get Laporte, 50million for Stones. I reckon if you wanted to get Varane you'd be looking 100million to even get Madrid thinking about it.

Who is better/as good for the money you are talking about?

Bonucci, though with Milan now allowed to play in Europe, its being reported that he could be staying with them, PSG are frontrunners if he moves..

other than him though.. none really

And he is older than Alderwerield - and Bangkok is saying we could get a younger player (assuming as good) for half what Spurs are said to be looking at for him.

Well the answer in short then is.. none

I'd safely say there is no CB aged 25-27 that could be got for 40/50m and is at Alderweireld level.
I'd love to be proven wrong.

Id have no problem if United spent upward of 100m on Varane.A class act.

Herrera talking about Dave, says he will stay because of the fans
"I remember that difficult summer when everyone was talking about Real Madrid and he played the first game at Old Trafford and everyone was singing his name and he told me 'this is amazing, they are the best',"

Only got around to watching the game the remarkable difference in out attack when having chong on. Mata didn't have to change position when martial went off he was already in the middle anyway I really really hope we get a right winger it has to be obvious.

Awesome and best CB in Seria A. No point thoughm Inter won't sell him for any price this summer.

De Vrij was available on a free transfer and signed for Inter. If we wanted ball playing CB so badly, he was one of the best available and we barely made a move for him.

He is a good CB and just 26 years old, also free transfer .

If we are looking for proven players, then we can't sign anyone for 35 million, but that's where we are lacking. We have changed scouting staff, appointed some very good one from Juventus, Atletico Madrid. If they can't come up with a list of players good enough to start for us, then we have lot of issues.

I know it's not going to happen but I think Vrsaljko is a vey good RB and would be happy to see him signed.
Best we can hope for is Dalot turns out to be excellent and starts to force his way into first choice by mid season.

If a proper wide man is bought for the right side then RB is less of an issue.
Vrsaljko would be relatively cheap - Liverpool had a €25M offer accepted for him in December. He can also play at left back.

De Vrij didn't want to leave Italy.

    Inter strongly linked to him.
Valencia will be first choice,United won't be signing another RB.

It was so frustrating last season watching Utd "attack" down the right. Not having an out and out right winger, along with Valencia hampered the team so much, and made it more straightforward for teams to set up against us.

If a right winger is not brought in, at the very least one of Rashford/Martial/Sanchez should be played there.

We arent going to sogn a RB at least if we signna RW then Valencias attacking role will reduce and his flaws may not be so evident

The worrying thing is Chelsea fans don't seem to care about losing him.Always a bad sign imo.
