Means you paid for it at some stage, was offered at reduced price last year, I think to some countries only.

Check the updates for the app and the changelogs, if you don't want the media streaming updates. Do not update the app, also turn off auto updates for it.

Ever heard of VLC? It even has chromecast support now.
VLC media player is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player that plays most multimedia files as well as discs, devices, and network streaming protocols.

What do you mean? "if its android a safe version will be along soon"? Why would it be unsafe now?

I missed the whole es explorer debacle but it seems extreme to Uninstall every application that gets bought by a larger company.

    Maybe I'm missing something though...

I've been using the desktop version of VLC for probably 15 years at this stage but feel like the android version is a long way from being my first choice media player. MX Pro has always been well ahead. Every year or so I take a look to see if things have changed but I'm always left disappointed.

^^^ Have the urls blocked with adaway since around that time.

    ^^^ From here.

Just started the app directly on a device, I Installed a new rom on recently, and was prompt with a request to allow/disallow target ads from AdMob.

Actually got prompted on new device, that I restored the backup of to it.

    Thanks for all the info.

Think I'll stop updates but will live with the tracking as the worst they could be doing is monitoring the file names and there's no reason to believe that's what they are doing.

Will continue to keep an eye on VLC though.

57 temporarily free and 74 on-sale apps and games to start July.

^^ Quote from the above below: -
There will only be two rounds of app sales this week. I am moving this coming weekend, so you're on your own for Friday and next Monday (possibly next Wednesday, too, but we'll see). I'll be back again when I'm set up enough in my new place to write these up. That being said, expect either a massive roundup next week or split parts.

    > Music Player Pro $3.99 €4.09 -> Free; Sale ends in 5 days

    > Oneamp Pro - Music Player $0.99 €0.59 -> Free; Sale ends in 6 days

^^^ Anyone use the above and do Bluetooth controls work in Oreo?
I have Poweramp and that has not been updated for Oreo Controls, problem with apps because Youtube Music works fine.
^^^ Edit both of the above do, have to get on to PowerAmp dev and request an update.

Top 5 most popular Android apps from last week: Perspecto, Instagram Lite

I was about to say, that we can return to normal app discussion, after the last few days discussing app security but.......

Google Play Store app licensing bug is putting developers in a horrible spot

[XDA] PSA: Latest Play Store update breaks license verification for paid apps

Edit: - Google Play Store 10.7.19 <<< Reported to fix the bug!

^^^ Haven't been effected personally yet, but apps that I have heard reported that it may effect (apps I have). ElementalX Kernel Manager, BubbleUPnP and could also effect PowerAmp as that regularly checks for validation.

Have you been effected by it? Solution is downgrade your playstore from apkmirror.
Maybe a downgrade to v10.6.30 (apkmirror) is possible as a workaround.

And to prevent it updating: -
you'll have to disable all automatic updates in playstore, then deinstall / deactivate the current playstore in AppManager, then it will remain, which is of course a pain...

    PowerAmp Oreo Bluetooth Controls?

Anyone else using that app with an Oreo rom?

Do Bluetooth Controls work for you?

Got a reply from an email and they tried to blame the rom, I'm using.

But I don't believe it is a problem with LineageOS based roms, but due
to old code in use by PowerAmp, that is no longer valid in Oreo.
(in older versions of Android they are handled by other, now depreciated means)

As the Youtube music and the other two apps listed above work, it is clearly a PowerAmp Code problem?

Here's a handy app if you have multiple accounts on youtube etc. and want to receive notifications, or simply clone apps, and it has other advantages also.

    Island

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.island&hl=en_IE

"Island" is a sandbox environment to clone selected apps and isolate them from accessing your personal data outside the sandbox (including call logs, contacts, photos and etc) even if related permissions are granted. Device-bound data is still accessible (SMS, IMEI and etc).
Isolated app can be frozen on demand, with launcher icon vanish and its background behaviors completely blocked.

    How does it work

Island takes advantage of the "managed profile" feature on Android 5.0+, which is the also the base of "Android for Work", to create an isolated sandbox for apps and their data.
App needs to be cloned in Island first. Afterwards, the clone can run parallel aside from the original one. (even with different accounts signed-in) It can be frozen on demand by Island. (NO ROOT REQUIRED)
Currently, all operations are manual in Island. There's a plan to integrate Greenify with Island to provide automatic freezing feature.

    On the Island, you can:

    * Isolate app, for privacy protection.
    * Clone app, for parallel running.
    * Freeze app, to completely block its background behaviors.
    * Hide app, for various reasons.
    * Archive app, for potential future use on-demand.
    * Use VPN only on one side, or different VPN on both sides.
    ……

If your device is incompatible or not encrypted, you can skip this limitation manually. Please refer to the XDA post for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/-t3366295

To uninstall and remove Island completely, please first "Destroy Island" in Settings - Setup - Click the recycle-bin icon besides Island. If you have already uninstalled Island app, please "Remove work profile" in your device "Settings - Accounts".

I tried Parallel Space but could not get notifications working, Island however makes clever use of the work profile and is more lightweight.

I got the 3 months free of youtube premium I must say I really like it. The interface is brilliant and I love the ability to download video. They need to sort out their bit rate though

Speaking of downloading from youtube, which apps are the best?
I used to use Tubemate but it requires conversion for the higher resolutions.

Thanks for that, and it does background playback too, another query I had!

It seems it can only download 1080p videos without audio though, I wonder what that limitation stems from.

    corkie, Doge..

Youtube Downloader by Samuele Rimi, over on github.

    https://dentex.github.io/apps/youtubedownloader/

    ---

Click Share within YouTube and select YTD..

I have used this apk for years to convert video to audio for my own use. Downloads video, audio, whatever combination of..

Mr. Rimi will accept donations, there's a very discreet nag once you've downloaded about 100 videos, that's about it.

The only fiddly part is, after installing, you have to click in advanced settings to download an FFmpeg plugin for certain types of muxing, audio only downloads.

I have had Korg's Kaossilator for Android on my wishlist since it became available, but I baulked at the close to €20 price tag.

Available at €8.49 till mid August 2018.

    Korg.gif

    KORG Kaossilator for Android
    KORG INC.

    Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.korg.kaossilator.android

    Korg product overview: https://www.korg.com/us/products/software/korg_kaossilator_for_android/

    ---

A lot of fun for €8.49. Very polished when it works. Please read the reviews before purchase, it seems to hang on certain flagship Samsung phones. I had no issues on a Moto G5S Plus.

Must say, I'm having a lot of fun with JQBX.

It's an app that connects with your Sportify. You join a room and you can either just be a listener or a DJ, and play songs (depending on the theme of the room). You collect Thumbs Up from others who like your selection (and the sense of accomplishment when someone Stars one of your songs, meaning they like it enough to want to remember it).

Small community at the moment, but a really fun way of discovering new music.

    There's a desktop version too: https://www.jqbx.fm/

    Apps mentioned: -

UC Browser, Dolphin Browser, Clean Master [Cheetah Mobile] (installed as part of the system in MIUI),
DU battery Saver, ES File Explorer File Manager, Anti-Virus apps and Kingroot.

    And the video recommends
    "File Manager by Xiaomi"
as an alternative, I would also avoid, see permissions requested.

    Edit: -

If you're still using Apex Launcher, here's a warning : the new 4.0 "huge" upgrade just erases all your settings, removes core feature and turns it into an advertisement platform.
