Infection spread to cheek

I have been having recurring gum infections from a bad upper molar. Over the past few days the infection has spread to my cheek which is now swollen hard and sore to touch also difficult to move. Went to the dentist hoping for antibiotics he removed the infected tooth but did not prescribe antibiotics will the removal of the tooth be enough for the infection in the cheek to sort itself out

I did, he said since the tooth caused the infection once its gone it should clear up. but i felt he didn't take me very seriously when i was describing the difficulty with my cheek even when he was initially assessing me. I guess there's nothing i can do now but wait and see, I'm just stressed about it

To be honest OP I would not delay. Your dentist is correct 99 times out of 100 once the problem tooth is gone the infection goes, but the odd time the infection persists in the absence of its cause, your dentist may need to do further treatment or give antibiotics so go see them ASAP. Take your temperature also so you can tell them if your running a fever. Best of luck

If you can't get to your dentist, go to your GP or local out of hours cover service like DDoc or SouthDoc etc etc

Get a 2nd opinion at another dentist.

Not everyone agree with each other. Dentists are no different to anyone else in this.

If they say the same, then you can relax.
