I just remain confident that business of some sort will be done. At least two, if not three, signings.

I think we will creak one more over the line in about 3 weeks

I am confident that some business will be done but I have no faith that we will do the business needed to give us a legitimate chance of winning the league or competing for the CL.

We needed serious upgrades in defence - and we have signed a (highly rated) prospect that has played less than 10 professional games - and we see nothing indicating that anything else is happening. No left back, random speculation linking us to every CB in football, but we are in for any?

We need a proper winger - no indication we are going to bring one in.

We'll do something like bring in a backup striker, and I'd have zero confidence we'll do anything else.

Turn it around like you do multiple times over the twenty five minutes it takes to get a steak cooked? Absolutely.

(Oh, actually, I think 'twas Adox, and maybe Mitch too, who recommended Texas Da Brasil in Orlando. Yeah, was there last week and it's literally my favourite place in the world now :P)

I can neither afford a trip to orlando...or a steak for that matter right now

Nope. Implied there'd be an exciting signing within the next week but I'd predict that too tbh :pac:

The Times are reporting that Luke Shaw rejected an offer from Everyone, so I assume we allowed him to talk to them. With Blind being allowed leave too, surely that means we're in the market for another left back?

Otherwise it's just Young, and potentially Dalot if he can play both sides.

or Everton spoke to his agent to see if Shaw would be interested in joining, and he said no (for whatever reason). I know that would be tapping up but I have to think that is the reality of how deals get done - would clubs bid for a player without knowing if he'd be interested?

More interesting is that he rejected them.

Is it just Everton he isn't interested in joining - waiting for Newcastle? He wouldn't get a top 6 side coming in for him. Maybe he simply feels he can win the let back spot at United. To be honest, if he doesn't back himself against Young, then that speaks very badly of his attitude and confidence (or his trust in Jose).

    What's he on wages wise?

I can't imagine there'll be many willing to offer highish wages for a player who has barely played for three years.

120k I think was the number I read when we signed him - I know it was more than Chelsea were willing to pay (so they say).

Must say, all quite in the market for us but the banter still goes on, hats off

    Duncan Castles:

"Although United have identified Alex Sandro as their preferred replacement for Shaw, provisionally agreeing personal terms with the Brazil international, they have refused to meet Juventus’ asking price for the defender.

Shaw’s reluctance to consider offers from elsewhere in the Premier League has further complicated the move for Sandro."

A bit different from the news earlier that Sandro to PSG was pretty much a done deal.

Is it? United refuse to pay the money needed and can't get rid of the left back the manager hates.

Doesn't sound like the psg deal is in danger.

Shambles of a club. Should have got this crap sorted already.

Documented? I believe the word you are looking for is speculated.

If it was documented it would be striking and unusual to take a pay cut over the duration of your contract so you would think there would be no disparity or anywhere saying 70k for example.

I'm starting to get a bit concerned about the lack of signings too. Part of me is thinking 'Sure it's a World Cup Summer, these things will always get delayed in that situation.'

However, a WC Summer didn't stop Juve from finalising a huge deal for Ronaldo. It didn't stop Liverpool from picking up a couple of important additions to their squad during the tournament. (I wouldn't have wanted Shaqiri, but Liverpool needed strength in squad depth this Summer and they got that with him).

I remember the Euros two Summers ago. With both a new manager coming into the club, and a major international tournament going on, many of us were expecting business to be slow that Summer. However, the club had 3/4 of their transfer business done and dusted by early July. The other 1/4, Pogba, was always going to be a drawn-out affair and massive media circus, so I don't blame the club for getting him later that Summer rather than sooner. It was all quite slick that Summer in fairness. Jose said he had identified 4 targets, and he got them.

This Summer seems far less organised and quite scatter-gun. We have Dalot, who let's be honest, 90% of us in here have no clue what he's like. He could be Darmian Part II. We have Fred, another 'new to the league player' who could take some time to settle in. Outside of that, we have links to 20+ players with nothing concrete seemingly incoming or imminent.

Most Summers I'm calm and patient about our transfer business, but this Summer I'm starting to find myself eyeing up a ticket to get on board the Mitch train. In less than 4 weeks, we have our first game of the season and it feels like the club are still in 'last season' mode. Still scouting Summer targets, still figuring out who is deadwood and who isn't, still waiting on some of our important players to even finish their season and go on holiday.

The club really needed to be going into this Summer fully prepared. Of course, the WC will offer some disruption to the transfer market, but not the complete stall which we've seen with United. We have Dalot, Fred and have retained the services of Fellaini. Great, we're going to challenge for Top 4 and go on a domestic cup run with that.

I'm sure there will be more signings, but I'm not at all optimistic about our upcoming start to the season. Not with the current lack of signings, plus the fact a bunch of our players will probably still be on holidays after the WC. Leicester at home in our first game, Brighton away in the second. Two games we need to be picking up maximum points in, walking through, to have any right to think about challenging for the title. As it is now, I'm not fully convinced we'll get those maximum points in those games or that we'll challenge for the title.

I believe the 100k figure came from Jose himself who took a pop at Shaw for choosing 'money over football' when Chelsea had been tapping up Shaw for months and were sure the deal was done. He said something along the lines of its dangerous paying a teenager 100k a week when they have achieved nothing yet.

    Never mentioned the wage itself
“If we pay to a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, to sign Luke Shaw, we are dead. We would have killed our stability with financial fair play and killed the stability in our dressing room.

“Because when you pay that much to a 19-year-old kid – a good player, fantastic player – but when you pay that amount of money, the next day, we would have had players knocking on our door.

“They would have been saying, ‘How is it possible I play 200 games for this club, won this and that, yet a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get?’

“It would’ve killed immediately our balance and we couldn’t allow that. I don’t criticise another club for paying it. They can pay what they want. I don’t have any comment about it. But for my club we can say it would be very negative for us, especially when we can say Felipe is much less expensive. Sometimes you have to make decisions.”
