1.6 diesel Golf engine malfunction

    Hi,

Just looking for some advice. I have a 14 golf 1.6 diesel. Last week driving on motorway, the blinking light for diesel engine pre glow came on for 2 minutes and then went off and hasn't came back on again.

This morning the continuous engine malfunction light came on. I was near home so drove on, then went to leave it into garage later and was no longer on.

Mechanic rang it through a diagnostics and said I'd have to leave it back on Friday for more tests but thinks it's serious and could cost up to €1300.

Has anyone had an issue like this before? Any idea what it could be or what it should cost to repair?

The car is running fine, no noise from engine, no issues with loss of power.

    Thanks

There really isn't enough to go on to even try to guess what it is. Best thing to do is bring it back to him and see what he says and go from there. At the moment you don't know, and it sounds like he doesn't know either.

Have you had the car back to vw for the emissions fix?

No “fix” on a 14 Golf. Only applies to the older engine.

I would take it to another mechanic for a second opinion before I paid up to €1300.

I thought they over lapped in 14. Just going to suggest if they had and it was egr that it'd probably be covered by vw.
