    Yeap.

I also am hoping this is part of the reason we are slow making our signings; we know that we need larger leaps than Mata-Shaqiri to overturn that 19 point deficit. I think we could have made signings if we were willing to accept a lesser level of player, and think we will have options of that level still in three weeks if needed. I'm hoping that the delay is cause we are pushing for Bale levels.

Think Willian will be the fall back there if we can't get a tier one player. Chelseas policy seems to make it easier to get players like him if we have too.

I'd love to agree with you - but Juventus just signed Ronaldo. If you want to be signing players you can sign players. We haven't signed the players some here (me) want cause the club either don't want to or are struggling.

I'd be still content with Willian, Sandro and Alderweireld to complete our Summer spending.

I know the Chelsea fans have had their reservations about Willian over the past season, but I think he and Jose would work well together once again.

I'd also point to Willian being of an age that means his signing doesn't really block the potential rise of a player like Chong or Gomes (if there is thinking in that direction at the club.).

Was looking in the Chelsea thread a few weeks ago and they were mostly bemoaning Willian and talking about the need to get a proper right winger in to replace him.

    Funny.

Same is said at United and Willian is the guy we want to solve it.

Someone has the player very wrong and it is more likely to be the United fans! (and I'd have been one backing a move for Willian)

To be honest I've never really rated him that much. Has bursts and moments for sure, but too many times he just seems to be a total passenger and does nothing. The few Brazil games I caught this world cup probably just said to myself "nah, no interest".

Could be another Matic situation, granted he totally surprised me at the start but by the end I felt "yeah, thats actually what I thought about you". Maybe it's a smart move because of the manager and his system or something.

But the reality is the quality RW players arn't available and mostly everything else is "meh"

I've been there before when posting about Willian a couple of months ago. He is another player, like Sanchez, who could effectively unsettle a young, developing player like Rashford or Martial. I hadn't even considered the development of the likes of Gomes and Chong, good point. They probably wouldn't really be affected by Willian if he were only here a few seasons, unlike Martial and Rashford who would be competing for a first team spot with him immediately.

Ahead of development, we need proven PL quality more than anything else in the next 1-2 seasons IMO, and Willian would be a good fit there. His previous positive relationship with Jose could be a benefit too, like it arguably was for Matic and Ibra when they came to the club.

Sanchez, Willian, Mata, Martial, Rashford, Lingard, they wouldn't be bad attacking options for the new season. Plus, there's a good balance with both senior and younger players there too.

Lindelöf again being linked with a loan away. You'd have to assume that means we ARE still after a new CB.

I'd assume BS, to be honest.

I think buying a CB depends on selling Jones or Smalling (Smalling more likely imo) than loaning Lindelof.

Too be honest i dont think we need a world class right winger.

We signed fred, that would mean we are going 3 in the middle.fred matic pogba.

Sanchez wont stay on the wing anyway and we have lingard rashford mata martial all to play the other position off lukaku

Jose has been 4-2-3-1 for a good while now. I think there will be a pivot of some sort, with either Pogba or Fred ahead of, possibly alternating roles.

I also don't see why going 4-3-3 would alleviate the need for a right winger?

Jose has played 4231, 4141, 433, 41212 and 352 off the top of my head with United..

I think we need an actual right winger - possibly to replace Martial in the squad.

The team lacks balance and width, and it won't be solved by the players you have named.

In an ideal world we would get two quality full backs, a quality CB and a quality RW.

RB is the only one I would do without because we brought in Dalot and a quality RW would solve that issue a lot anyway.

it would massively increase the need for far better full backs than we have, or a much better right winger.

As it stands our front 3 would all come inside and we have no fullback going down the outside dragging the defence out of position and providing space. It would be a cluttered disaster.

Which is what we saw a good bit last season. No width and no idea.

He didn't do it in terms of reaching his potential. I agree with that. But did play around 40 times in his first season under Jupp when they won the treble. And was key in their cup success.

It didn't work with Pep. He didn't do enough to earn a spot over Robben even despite a storming World Cup in 2014.

He was only at inter for like 6 months before leaving. He turned down a move to Liverpool earlier as Bayern had convinced him to stay, then admitted he got impatient being on the bench and jumped at the opportunity to join Inter.

However he didn't enjoy the Italian football. Said it was too slow, lacked explosiveness and creativity, and his game didn't suit it. Also mentioned how shocking the Inter infrastructure for recovery, performance analysis and nutrition is compared to England and Germany.

He left after expressing his unhappiness to Mancini who he claims he never had any issues with. So he didn't do it but it was a case of him wanting out. It's not great by him but a mistake.

I'd imagine most would consider him one of their best players. In his 3 seasons there he has been top scorer, and top assist provider twice.

And that is like you mentioned, playing with a poor Stoke team around him.

He's 26, and at least I can agree on the use of the word bargain!

And of the people you mentioned:
Sanchez: LW/CAM, started 0 games last season on the right.
Rashford: LW/ST, only started 2 games last season on the right.
Martial: LW, started 3 games last season on the right. Also most seem to think he's on the way out.
Mata: RW, the converted RW but is regular starter.

So 3 of the 4 have been regularly on the opposite wing with one linked with a move away. I understand people's opinion of Shaqiri. Personally think whoever is getting him is getting a bargain.

Hopefully we go on to sign someone outstanding at RW but if the seasons starts and we haven't even brought in some competition for the right-hand side I'll be looking back at a wasted punt on Shaqiri which comes with little to no risk.

He started 13 league games for Bayern in their treble winning season and one start in the CL. His starts got even worse the next year and the year after that. I'm guessing you must be including sub appearances and the like, he had 13 sub appearances in the league and 6 in the CL, but presenting it as playing 40 games is massively disingenuous. He was not rated at all by Bayern fans because they felt he was tactically inept and prone to overplaying and running down blind alleys (basically what we see from him at Stoke).

He went to a mediocre Inter side and couldn't get into the side. As many sub appearances as starts, which is now a pattern. He then went to Stoke and has been okay in a poor side. He will be 27 two months into the season. The reason why I mention age is that wingers rarely start to suddenly improve going into their late 20s. It's that type of position. The reason why I mention all of our other players, even if they don't necessarily play that position, is because every one of them is a better footballer, right footed, and more worthy of a chance to take that wing spot.

Shaqiri would be a nothing signing for us, unless he bucks the trend of his career, another bench warmer with a handful of good games and not being able to nail down a spot. I would really hope that our management is looking at better quality than him and if he is there onoky option, you may as well stick Rashford out there and save yourself the wages. You would not be losing out on anything.

Absolutely useless. Constantly fouling anytime I’ve watched Croatia.

Versaljko on the other hand, fantastic player. What I’d give for him up and down our right flank.

I can see why Mourinho wanted Perisic so bad. He’s played a blinder.

John Wick would be a different film if he was in the lead role, not one person would have been hit by all the shots.

Just in from Antman and the Wasp

I have to say. If it's the last minute of the world cup final and i need a goal to survive, the last person I want taking the corner, one on one with the keeper or standing over the free kick, is Marcus Rashford.

Liverpool not winning the champions league and England not winning the world cup in the space of few months!!!

We have a lot to be thankful for lads!
