The Grand Canal- Backpacking

I will be traveling to Ireland next year to backpack the Grand Canal into Shannon Harbor. I was curious if their were any areas appropriate to camp in along the trail? Any tips on the trail and places to stop are appreciated!

I was originally planning to take the Grand Canal route out of Dublin, but then changed to the Royal Canal because it worked better for our final destination.
