There’s always whining about Netflix. It’s fairly cheap at the moment - given they are loss making I always assumed that the prices would go up.

It's cutting down the amount of continuous streams that is the massive pain in the hole. In a house with a couple of kids of different ages and taste, that's a godsend.

Watched an episode of Good Girls last night, my wife got sucked in and we watched another immediately afterwards. It's got a good cast and was pretty entertaining. It'll be interesting to see where it may go after the 2nd episode as there's 10 altogether, it may go down a tired old road or turn off elsewhere altogether but it's promising.

Irish Times being bipolar on it, listing it as both one of the best shows to watch on Netflix this month, alongside a review saying "they're girls, and it's not good". Anyway, like all these things, it's all down to personal opinion and reviews are seldom something I rely on.

^ Yeah, watched the first 2 or 3 episodes of Good Girls.. and thought it was good, but not groundbreaking. Best described as Weeds, but not as exciting or well-written.

The fact that they aren't changing the name of the existing tiers or the price of them, just reducing the number of streams, makes me think this won't affect existing customers - at least at first. If this is about making more money out of existing customers it would make more sense to just increase the price of the tiers (and let people downgrade if they wish) rather than reduce the number of streams.

If it does apply to existing customers, then it's very underhanded way of increasing the price. After all, it's unlikely anyone is paying for a tier they don't need.

Anyway, if this does happen I'll just downgrade to the single stream tier and organise my viewing around the rest of the house as I don't watch Netflix that much.

Good Girls is like a shit version of Claws, I watched a couple of episodes as it aired but grew tired of the constant whining from the cast and the fact that it was done a dozen times before.

Claws is vastly superior in every way, a genuinely great piece of TV and the writing is excellent. Plus it has Dean Norris as Uncle Daddy, the best character to come along since Omar. It's also the rare treat of being a female-centric show in which they genuinely are powerful and in no way defined by the men in their lives. It's also refreshing for how race is never an issue or even brought up even though the main cast are made up of four different races.

    Watched Calbre last night.

Its a decent enough film about two friends that go hunting in the Scottish highlands but not everything goes according to plan.

Not at the moment. They're on Amazon Prime Video Ireland if you have it.

Think you can sign up for a free trial, might be a month if you want to watch it.

Sounds like trying to stop people sharing accounts.

I rarely watch comedy but saw a few reports about Hannah Gadsby Nanette.

It's a brilliant powerful 1 hour and 9 minutes if you have time to watch it.

It's great to see that Netflix is showing The Hateful Eight in all its Ultra Panavision 70 glory (2.76:1 aspect ratio). However, it is the 167 min version rather than the 187 min.

As someone who thinks that Tarantino is in sore need of an editor who'll rein him in the way Sally Menke used to do, is there anything notably missing in the 167 min version, for someone who hasn't seen the film before? I found the theatrical release of Django Unchained to be bloated and overlong, so I expect the same of TH8, but am open to the longer version if it's genuinely worth it.

It's not long since they last increased their price, is it?

I think I saw it in a very dusty cinema - it kept getting in my eyes.

I think I put vinegar in the popcorn instead of salt the 2 or 3 times I've watched it

Good entertainment for big kids too; surprisingly old-fashioned sort of film, there wasn't a cynical bone in its body, and one that passed folks by in the cinema.

I saw the original UP70 version in London but I don't recall the running time. This "roadshow" version had an overture and intermission but that wouldn't account for 20 minutes. I remember reading somewhere that the 70mm cut had some scenes edited differently to the standard release. On balance I'd say you probably wouldn't be really missing anything of importance in the 167 min version.

I thought Looper was one of the biggest hapes of shíte I had the misfortune to watch. The plot was pure bollocks. I watched that and Prometheus in the same weekend. Ranks as one of the worst weekends of my life.
