    My pelvic floor.
5 years ago I wasn't even aware it was there. A few kids later and I can't run, jump or even cough while standing up without feeling like all my internal organs are about to fall out onto the floor.

    My back.

Herniated a disc about two months ago and spent two weeks on bed unable to move. Still in pain to this day and only just coming off the strong painkillers they've had me on.

God I can't wait to be able to train again.

Gee, it's funny to think there's so much older people on boards! I can't picture anyone old that I know on boards!

My hair. God, I had great hair. Alas, the top of my head has now become shiny so its a 2 all over nowadays. I still look good, not the end of the world.

IBS a more upsetting development. Brought on (I think) by a bout of food poisoning in England back in 2012 and gut has been protesting ever since. It really is a nuisance, not painful that often but uncomfortable always.

    +1 re nose hair.

Have you ever been tested for Helicobacter pylori? It can cause some of the symptoms you mention and can be a side effect (for want of a better word) of food poisoning. IBS is a terrible thing to be dealing with. Has such an effect on your day to day life.

Never heard of that but googled it there and symptoms dont seem to match. Acid / heartburn isnt an issue for me.

Am sure it wouldve been picked up by now if it was a potential cause. Ive had blood tests, food allergy tests, a colonoscopy and most recently a CAT scan. Have also tried all the drugs recommended to me, over the counter or otherwise. Very little progress made.

Well I've the cause of one of my potential frown lines, as I described with the nose picking.

What caused yours? Do you notice more on one side of your face than the other? And how's your neck?

Lol my neck is fine, no nose picking over here. Just general getting older :( the worst part is they wearnt there two years ago, they seemed to have popped up over the last year. So frustrating.

Sucks doesn't it? Seems whatever it is I eat I just bloat up straight away. I'm staying away from wheat and spicy foods which seems to help a little but I can't remember the last time I've had a day without discomfort to some extent.

    :(

Does the way you sleep against your pillow seem to bring any lines on?

    Have you considered a probiotic?

    Have you considered a probiotic?

yes, tried a number of them, cheap, expensive, from the pharmacy, health store....

They help to an extent which is good I guess, but nothing close to a cure or 'normal' situation
    :(

Another sufferer here. With me there seems to be no food in particular that triggers a bout but there are foods which certainly exacerbate things if I'm going through a bad patch.
I mean I could have a pizza today and be fine but a dinner of spuds, veg, and maybe chicken the next day and be in bits. Or it could easily be the other way around.

It starts with cramps which are worse when I lie flat, bloating, and just general horribleness. Acidophilus kind of helps and Colfac tabs. Then there's this thing that happens when I eat a big dinner say and I'm feeling ok after but look 12 months pregnant.

    Sigh.

What was the cause of it?

Ive had it and I still lift weights. Cant squat cos the knees though.

I think it might have been from doing one armed shoulder presses this time. €360 in consultant fees and €760 in deep cortisone injections finally sorted it out. I'm just too terrified to lift weights anymore now :( I spent 2 months in chronic pain.

Low fodmap diet and colpermin can be very beneficial to the bloating/constipating type of IBS.

Mood stabilizers even moreso. There is a very strong connection between the brain and the gut. It's interesting... that's why I mentioned it - to clarify - not suggesting people try mood stabilizers to treat wind.

And very poorly understood as well. My GP put me onto this* : https://www.precisionbiotics.com/ie/what-is-zenflore I think it was developed in UCC

Although I'm taking it more for the brain than the gut. Been taking it for about 2 weeks and I think there's some improvement, even if only a little.

Don't think you need to worry about anybody rushing out to get mood stabilisers, they're not all that easy to come by :D

    My legs.

Despite having huge knobby knees Moss Keane would be proud of, my legs are completely cellulite free, firm and fit looking.

I never wore shorts while I could and now late 40’s am realizing how well I (still)look and have aged.

that's what bother me most nearly, that there doesn't seem to be anything in particular. I'd quite happily spend the rest of my life eating just beansprouts and sardines if that's what it took to sort my gut out but there's just no rhyme or reason to it.

I think for me stress is a big part of it as well (I'm pretty sure that was the 'cause' if any)

Going on holidays in 2 weeks and I have to say I'm somewhat concerned that I might end up the 'fartguy' on the campground :(

I didn't realise mood stabilisers could help. That's very interesting. There is a connection between our mental state and gut. I don't know the statistics but a lot of people who suffer with anxiety and depression also struggle with IBS.

Colpermin does nothing for me and I've yet to try the low fodmap diet. My trouble is I love all food so much.

Totally took my teeth for granted. They are just so-so now, but when I was in my twenties I was always complimented on them. I saw a photo from back then and they WERE lovely. Oh, I had a great yummy then too...and at the time thought I was fat!

    Brachial neuritis, brachial FÚCKING neuritis.
Took horrific nerve pain in my shoulder after baby was born 6 months ago. Never felt pain like it. Labour pains were nothing in comparison.
About 10 days after baby was born i just lost all power in my shoulder and it has been paralysed since. 300mm of damage and it will take a year to repair itself (hopefully).

I miss being able to give my family proper hugs and being able to lift my baby up properly and not as if she is a sack of spuds.

I've actually been casually looking for that product. The same company makes a product called alflorex to improve digestion (which is widely available). I've been taking it for a couple of months and have noticed a great improvement in my digestion... I probably have the 'messier' form of ibs :))

Constipation is evil and buggers up my life at times.

    Tough sh*t, literally.

Have to go with this one. I’m a healthy weight and reasonably fit but I don’t eat much fruit and vegetables.
On 13th of March 2014 I woke up in the middle of the night with the worst pain I hope I ever experience in my life. Have had various surgical procedures but this took pain to a new level. Got to doctor ASAP in the morning and it survey out I was so constipated that the solidified contents of my bowel were obstructing the emptying of my bladder.

Message here:you really need roughage in your diet, your bowels don’t just evacuate magically.

At this stage I'd be happy to have constipating IBS as opposed to my current version of it. Cramps, foul smelling gas, bloating and then finally being glued to the porcelain throne for several bouts of rapid fire evacuation. Going on 4 years now, blood tests, allergy tests, scope tests have yet to find an answer. Wears ya down.

Have you had a scope up? I’m having one in a few weeks.

Why did it give? Was it really under that much pressure when you were trying to get by the gap?

Well, it's hard to be sure what exactly I was doing at the time, all those years ago, but once the Doc told me it was part of my femoral nerve that was affected, I read up on it and saw that sudden weakness of the knee - exactly as described by Graces7 - is one of the fairly common signs. And also a pain on the inside of the knee, which I'd noticed on and off, especially on long drives, but thought it was some kind of strain ...

Don't know what I did back in February that suddenly crippled me, but ever since, I can feel my vertebrae clicking and clunking when I'm walking on uneven ground. :(
