You were saying before the world cup they never play together!!

No but nice try, I said they havent played together in a midfield 3 since France dont use a midfield 3. (They still haven't fyi) Matuidi plays on the LAM when Kante and Pogba are togther as he has his last two games. Plain to see :)

Unfortunate Cedric dropped by Portugal after that awful penalty decision :(

Yea but it wasnt a 4-2-3-1. He wasnt playing as a winger. It was still a 4-3-3 formation

I never said he was.. matuidi Greizmann and Mbappe tuck in when attacking and allow the fullbacks to provide the width.. you do know that there is different variations of that formation..

In defence it’s Mbappe and matuidi help the fullbacks while Griezmann helps the midfielders

If you squint your eyes it's a flat midfield 3 but if you look at it properly it's 4231

You can't just say a team is whatever formation because for the most part they will have a shape in possession and a different one out of position.

At this point I think 4-3-3 must be default formation for Fifa 18. Only explanation really.

Edit: Nope Fifa has 4-2-3-1. But PES has 4-3-3 as Frances formation.

    Transfer Deadline Day August 9.

40 days away if we settle for resigning players over recruitment it will not go down well.

Matuidi has never been an attacking left midfielder.

    Clear as day 4-3-3 today

WHY ARE PEOPLE ARGUING OVER MATUDI POSITION! F SAKE PEOPLE.

433 or 4231, just get the f over it! It's not United, it's not a united player, not a player that even used to play.

    F sake.

Will lingard be a starter next season?

Will Sanchez improve with a rest and a preseason or is it just a fit thing?

Should we try a different formation?

Any young lads likely to make any impact this season?

Will Jose getting us playing nicer looking football? What would he be likely to change to get it?

We've signed two players. Liverpool have signed one (plus the guy they signed last summer). Chelsea, City and Spurs haven't signed anyone.Calm down.

I'm never sure why other teams failing to get business done means United doing the same is fine.

The point, as is made every year to you, is that it is not that we are being abnormally slow in our business or that we are "failing to get business done". In fact, in the context of the window, we have actually been doing a better job getting our business done than others.

It is still only July 1st, and even in a normal year, we are still moving at a grand pace, transfer wise, something that many will measure in the context of seeing how other clubs re doing. In a World Cup year, it was always going to be a little slower than usual, but the club will move at as quick a pace as nessecarily to get the players at the level it needs. Their job is not to get the deals done at a pace that suits you but at a pace that hopefully allows the club to get the level of player it needs.

We could have had players of an inferior level in already if speed was the most important factor. But transfer deals for players at the top level will never be quick. That's how we end up overpaying for mediocrity. Arsenal, for instance, look to be getting business done quickly, but the level of player they have brought in is significantly lower than we would want or need.

If the club are after, for example, a Bale level player, such a deal will take time to negotiate and complete. That it is not done by July first does not mean it is not happening, or that we will not get deals done. I am sure the transfer department is working as quickly as they can to achieve the level of activity we need to step up to the required level.

To be blunt, you can show an absurd level of nativity every summer with regards how quickly and easily transfers at the utmost top level can actually be achieved. The reason some will look to other teams is to judge how the market is flowing. No top teams, in any country, have bought anyone of a significant level yet. This shows that if there is a speed issue, per se, it is not a United issue but simply how the market is at the current moment.

Meh formation talk. 4231, 433, 4312 who gives a ****. Formations and positions change during the game. It could be a 451 while defending but a 4231 while attacking.

Anyway, 40 days left to sign some players, we still need a left back and a right winger and a top center back.

    To answer Mitch's questions

Will lingard be a starter next season? Should we try a different formation?

I am going to put the two of these together as i think the formation will dictate Lingard's amount of starts and also the transfers, If we sign a RW i think we will proceed with a 433 or 4231 playing with attacking players out wide which means that Lingard will be a rotation player. If we don't sign a RW we NEED to have 2 fullbacks that can cross the ball and i can see us playing a more narrow formation like a diamond midfield with the FB creating the width.

    With new RW
    Lukaku
    Sanchez - Pogba - RW
    ----Matic---Fred

    or
    Sanchez-Lukaku-RW
    ---Pogba---Fred----
    Matic

With regards to Lingard there he can rotate with the RW or pogba in the first formation with Pogba dropping back and playing from deep. he could rotate with Fred and the RW in the second one.

    Without RW

    Sanchez-Lukaku
    ----Lingard
    --Pogba--Fred--
    Matic

I do think the formation will be dictated by the opposition we face, with Pogba and Fred both playing higher against the weaker teams and stick with a 4231 against the stronger teams, keeping the fullbacks more defence minded.

Will Sanchez improve with a rest and a preseason or is it just a fit thing?

With a full pre-season I think Sanchez will improve, through the second half of the season you could see that he was trying to make things happen and i think his understanding with the players around him was a bit off, thats to be expected when you buy in January. but because he was on very high wages he isn't allowed the time to bed in and was expected to hit the ground running.

Any young lads likely to make any impact this season?

I don't think there is many or the current u21 that could make an impact at senior level for United TBH, though if you look further back I hope to see Gomes and Chong pushing on this year and getting more chances at that higher level. Chong in particular will be interesting to see if he starts the new season with the u21.

Will Jose getting us playing nicer looking football? What would he be likely to change to get it?

I think again that depends on how the midfield functions. and whether we can get his signings in. we need the midfielders to get on the ball and play the ball quicker which wasn't happening last year for whatever reason, players where dillydaddling on the ball and taking too many touches, there needs to be quicker passes and transitions especially against the weaker teams to get thru the lines before the defence can organise properly.

Fullbacks that can cross will also have a huge effect here i think, as they can add to the attack leaving more space for the creative players to work and we can mix it up a bit more. Very few things more frustrating than seeing Valencia storm up the pitch stop, allowing the opposition to regroup, then doing a dance and passing the ball back to the midfielder who then has to try do something against a packed defence. Its the same with Young on the other side, that cut back to his right foot gives the opposition extra time to organise.

Rubbish. He’s a Tony Cascarino-esque hatchet man with negligible talent and negligible ability. He’d be a cult hero if he played for Ireland, Celtic, or Stoke, but for a club like ours that aspires to be the best it’s an abomination that he plays for us. Real fans are dead right to want to see the back of him. But lest we forget, this thread is full of snowflakes who prefer to pretend that everything is great rather than critically analyse the club that they purport to love.
I would critique this post but I don't want to be accused of ganging up on someone or being part of a click.
