McTominay may develop into a better player than he currently is so yes I want him to be ahead of fellaini. Both should be 5th and 6th choice midfielders though.

Neither are great but one is improving (hopefully) and one is 30 so hardly likely we'll see much improvement from him through game time as a midfielder.

Use fellaini as previously stated. He'll probably end up with more game time than McTominay if used as the target man option.
I think Fellaini is better but for the role in the team as a defensive minded backup or tall target man id have been happy for fellaini to be let go and Mctominy given the chance this season to step into that role. If we don't feel mctominay has the potential to be that player at least then why would we be keeping him?
It all comes back to the same point though, this narrative that Felliani is just a target man or a clogger.

He's not, he is a perfectly good midfielder who can play well in a fluid midfield and who has shown it for club and country many times. A midfield three with Felliani on the left side worked well when we saw it happen, even if we saw it very rarely last season for various reasons.

And its not giving him more credit than he is due to point this out, its simply a realistic appraisal of his value. He is a very useful player who in this thread is repeatedly made out to be a one trick pony.

    I disagree.
His passing is Conservative and safe 99% of the time. He slows down and stifles our offensive passing. Fluidity in midfield does not come with him involved in the passing movement.

His passing isn't incisive or quick enough to appraise him as being good enough for a fluid midfield.

His primary uses when he plays are defensive and acting as a target man for direct balls from defence or into the box.

Edit: maybe his use of the ball is purely down to tactical instruction and he'd show more if freed up, but i can't comment on that cause I dint know. I can only comment on what I see from him when he plays for us.

I assume that means its actually a 4-2-3-1 again?

Well playing 4231, Pogba and Kante deeper matuidi LAM Mbappe RAM and Greizmann SS ;)

Pogba will be tasked at playing the ball from deep to behind the fullbacks I’d say, Argentina are very poor out there

You are using a freeze frame to prove a formation. Laughable.

I said ages ago them 3 would start for france. I was correct

Are you sure. I hear some say Greizmann is a brilliant central midfielder ;)

Should do a swap deal with martial plus money for mbappe. Would sort out our attack down the right

Just watching him charge 70 yards with the ball and win a penalty it isn't the worst of ideas and he went to the right instead of left.

What on earth was Rojo at? Terrible defending. Brainless.

Poor Rojo have night terrors if he had to face Mbappe in training.

Couldn't keep with Mbappe. Mascherano got brushed aside too. The kid is a tank that moves like a rocket.

    That's embarrassing for Rojo.

He plays mostly from the right of attack. Best young player in the world right now.

Pogba and Mbappe in this game...so good. Mbappe in time is a Ballon D'or winner as he should only improve.

Am I the only one that thinks rojo was hard done by. Mbappe just ran past him and pretty much held rojo as much as rojo held him.

I think credit has to be given to Mbappe as he showed great speed and strength. No one from Argentina was coping with that run.

His run past Rojo had put him wide into a low percentages position. He'd have been taking a shot the keeper should deal with or checking back giving Rojo a chance to reposition to defend against him - grabbing at him was a brainless move.

    ^ this

Being beaten for pace in that position does not mean he should run across his path and drag him down.

I will always be sad di Maria didn't work out at United.

    Stunning strike.

Pogba dominating in midfield. Excellent half

    Stunning strike.

The 300 or so minutes of being hugely ineffective before that goal remind me why he didn't work out at United.

Which is a shame for a player with that ability.
