Hi lads quick question. My new car is due in next week.
Everything's ready to go bar me signing a few more papers on the day.
But I forgot completely about delivery charges of the car. The sales guy never mentioned it either.
Do I pay these charges on the day or are they worked into the finance.

    Cheers

I presume you agreed a price for the car already?
    The price is the price.

    Correct ..
The price shouldn't change , you agreed it ..
Sales guy is trying it on , no way can he can just add it on now
    tell him where to go

The cost of delivery is included in the price you agreed.

Just to clarify though, the salesman hasn't contacted you and asked you to pay "delivery charges" has he?

Ya he told me he forgot to tell me about them but I ow 500 on the day for delivery charge. I had a sneaky feeling he never added it to the overall price we agreed by mistake and is now chancing his arm.
I'l tell him politely where to go.

Oh, that's a bit different. Yeah, he shouldnt really do that, that's fairly poor. The industry standard/ expectation is that that cost is included in the deal price.

What kind of car is it? Only 500 seems on the low side for delivery. Sounds very odd that a salesman would forget about delivery.

    also a conveniently round number?

And would it not have been mentioned somewhere on the paperwork that was filled out?

I'd only pay the price that was agree. It was his mistake not to include the delivery charges

    It's for a vw golf.

When we agreed the price he gave me an a4 sheet with all my extras and the cost of them plus the value of my trade in against the price and at the end was the final price followed by how much I will ow monthly. I signed 2 copys of this 1 for him then me. It doesn't mention a delivery charge on it anywhere.

But as you lads said we agreed on a price so I won't give him anything. I thought 500flat sounded weird also.

It's my first new car so maybe he's changing his arm

    Isn't VW delivery €775?

I wouldn't say he's chancing his arm and looking to pocket your €500 payment or anything, I'd say he's just balls up the deal price and needs to get a little more off you. Wouldn't really entertain anyway. I'm not usually an advocator of making odle threats, but tell him you'll leave the deal over it, that'll see it sorted I'd say.

I've no idea what price the delivery charge is for vw but he told me 500.

Well he won't be getting anything extra outta me to be honest

The official price guide for the VW's usually has the delivery charge at a flat 775 (ish). But that said, I do know that figure varies for one dealer to another - definitely cheaper for the Dublin based dealers to get the cars landed than for dealers in the west for example.

That said, I've never heard of a dealer trying this one on before. As others have said, the general accepted practice in this country for a new car is, the delivery charge - whatever figure that is - is built into the agreed price. It's not something that's tacked on or thrown at the customer on collection day. No way. So the dealer's either chancing his arm or he somehow f**ked up his original figures and is trying to claw it back now (more likely reason imo).

Have you a copy of the order form? What car is it, is there factory extras on it - and are you trading anything in against it?

Tell him to go jump, being realistic how is anyone supposed to compare pricing between dealers if there is a final surprise payment owing. For all he knows he could have won your sale by being €400 cheaper than a competitor whose price was inclusive of delivery

I've bought 3 new cars from skoda and the price is the price. Agreed well in advance of delivery and never changed. Dealer should factor in all costs at day 1.No ninja fees after. Is it pcp?

VW's own pricing document shows a RRP and separate Delivery which it adds together to prod6ce the ROTR (Recommended On The Road Price).

Your deal papers should be very clear about starting with ROTR adding on only agreed prices for extras that is then reduced by the TIV to produce the Price you Pay. No way should any additional costs be added to that.

The price advertised is ex delivery.

This is an interesting one. Obviously he's entitled to change delivery yet for 500 would he be willing to cause bad blood?

How is the price of the car before extras described/labelled on that A4 sheet?

Contact VW Ireland first, basically you’re shocked that the price agreed is ex delivery. You thought VW were going to be more honest since dieselgste, and it’s really ruined what should be a happy experience.
