The point when you realised how much your parents actually did for you on a day to day basis; washing clothes, ironing, shopping for food and household basics, paying for bills like car tax, maintenance, insurances, keeping the house functioning.....and now I had to figure out how to do all that myself and some of it was hard work!

There is still comfort in the fact that adults don't know what they're doing, it's made up as we go.
I said this to my Dad when we were chatting about what it's like with a newborn. I said something along the lines of "sure you're great at it" and his reply was "I tell you what, we came home from the hospital, put your basket on the floor looked at you and said 'what the fcuk are we going to do with this? Then I got a beer from the fridge. That didn't stop for about 20 years".

I laughed at my granny telling me to start saving for my hip replacement in 1996 (she was going in to get hers done).

Turns out she was right. My hip is well and truly in the dodgy category.

I have a memory of sitting in a restaurant with my family, looking at the dessert trolly going past. And thinking to myself, "when I'm a grownup, I'm just having the desserts. All of them. Feck this eating my dinner first!"

As an adult, I really couldn't be bothered with the dessert most of the time. I'm far more likely to look for another plate of veg. Little me would be disgusted with how I turned out.

    weight gain...damn you!!
    kids are energy vampires
you look at that fourth beer and go...nah...not worth it
toilets don't actually clean themselves....scratch that...nothing cleans itself

I could go on....but....I married an absolute saint of a woman who gave me three wonderful kids and without her I would be a very large manchild...adulthood didn't prepare me for the fact if you meet the right person and I sincerely hope its in everyone to do that despite all your insecurities and misconceptions of what it is supposed to be it can be a head**** of a voyage of discovery and pleasant all rolled into one.

Also, boobs. I didn't have many women around me growing up, so I was getting the idea of what an adult woman's body should look like from TV. I watched Baywatch a lot. Got the shock of my life when I found out that the odds are against me having giant boobs one day.

That it takes an enormous amount of effort just for things to stay the same.
When you have young kids, if you do nothing for a day your house looks like squatters held a rave there!

As a kid I never realized how fascinating I'd find them.

Thanks Donald, I'll pass. They are actually quite big and some time ago I received an anonymous message that said "savage tits", so I think I'm grand.

The older I get the more I appreciate my parents for what they done for me growing up. However I also see ways in which they made mistakes raising me. I can't help observing certain things from time to time as I get older.

I'm sure they felt the same as I did about their own parents. When I have kids I'll remember not to repeat them.

That most people are faking about their lives, or being responsible. It's all so superficial. Nice house, nice car/ huge mortgage, debt coming out of their ears. Loving wife, great kids/ sleeping separately from the wife, a host of mental/social conditions for the kids.

Never thought adulthood was so much about hiding just how bad your life can be...

Also never thought adults would feel so much humiliation over relatively small issues.

The endless amounts of cleaning, washing, tidying etc. that I manage to generate, even without kids.

Myself and herself are the same, it's a never ending cycle!

Your friends no longer buy you birthday presents.
They now spend their money on YOUR kids birthdays.

    After 30, time speeds up a year isn't worth a ****

Adults don't know anything their just wandering aimlessly suffering, enduring til they die, young people give them far too much respect. I know I did.

Oh, here's another one. When you have kids you will turn into your parents.

You will actually be able to hear yourself repeat bullsht they used to say to you.

    It is very spooky.

This is actually the real purpose of Facebook, to help people pretend to their friends that they have a family barbecue every weekend and it is always sunny and the dog does a funny trick and everyone laughs. Nobody goes days without talking or smiling, and the fridge is full of delicious food, not just alcohol.

People in a position of authority aren't necessarily intelligent and competent.

    you still need a bedtime

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

The older you get the more you realise that the majority of people are just winging it, professionally, personally and in every other way you can imagine. The world is packed full of fúcking chancers!
