That will be taken off him, he was trying to knock the ball by the defender and the defender lobbed the keeper

Pity Australia didn't get anything out of that game, that French team is full of very unlikable players imo

The two fullbacks especially today where poison.

    Constant negative play.

You think the manager will change his midfield in an attempt to find a combination that will accommodate Pogba?

That is their best midfield trio.

Mendy start left back as well

The manager should probably attempt to find a combination that wasn’t as putrid as the first hour or so today.

I don’t think the post you quoted mentioned accommodating Pogba specifically, but rather that it might improve the team.

I'm just surprised to hear that a manager might have to change his midfield around due to ineffective performances.

Or should I say, I'm surprised that another manager has to do it.

Tbf, the quip of the last few years was well and truly on display today. "The only man that can stop France from winning is Didier Deschamps".

We were having the same conversations at the Euros about why can't he figure out his best midfield and he still hasn't a couple of years later.

The full back thing is a little different given it's the only place on the pitch they're not stacked, particularly right back.

Tolisso didn't do much to guarantee his spot other than come across like a complete tosspot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,891 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

Far more likely Giroud replaces Tolisso to give them presence up top.

Probably won't be many in agreement with this, but with it looking likely that Wilshere won't be getting his contract renewed, I'd definitely take a chance on him. Obviously he seems to be fragile and injury prone but when fit(and that's the massive issue) i think he is England's most naturally gifted midfielder.

If got on a short, relatively cheap base contract with appearance buffers I'd like to see what he could do. Also helps he'd be regarded as home-grown.

When he first broke through I would have agreed with you. However I think he’s regressed a lot since. He didn’t do very much on loan at Bournemouth and I was surprised to see him stay with Arsenal. I think injuries have set him back too much.

Point taken, although I wouldn't hold a season on loan at a different team completely against him. He showed at times this season just gone by that he still has the ability. And most would forget that he is still only 26 years of age. As i said, it would be a risk due to his injury proneness, but on the right contract I think he is worth the risk.

Has bits if brilliance throughout a season but doesnt justify the hype. If he was fully fit non injury prone that can do the 90 mins in a game, id say he'd be world class. He's his own downfall though through no fault of his own, just made of glass

I think at this point we don’t need to take a punt on someone who would essentially be a squad player. We need to sign players to improve the first 11.

Pick him up for free to build out the squad is grand but he would have to be happy to be 5th/6th choice for a 3 man midfield. I'd say he'll want to go somewhere he'll play week in week out at this stage.

While I'm all about improving our starting 11, there is the need to have decent squad players, especially in midfield and attack. We are also most likely losing 2 squad midfielders in Carrick and Fellaini, so a bare enough midfield needs more depth. Obviously if the Fred deal goes through officially thats 1 in for the 2 needed, however I'd argue that there is need for more depth than what was there previously. We need to be thinking like City in squad depth.
Also, as he will be a free transfer, we are not using up any transfer funds and his wage will not be more than a squad wage with incentives for appearances i would hope. So essentially he is a bit of a punt to nothing. If he stays fit and works out it has been a great bit of business, if not we haven't lost our shirt on him and he won't be on a long term contract either.

They are both centre halfs, strange choice from Deschamps.

Especially considering who he left out.

They have to play Giroud from start next game surely. And at least one those full backs need to change. Matudi back in do them no harm either.
