Fixed Charge Notice (FCN)

Hi all, I'm just trying to understand what this term means, and I couldn't find a clear definition on the Internet. On Wikipedia however, I have found "Fixed penalty notice", which is used in Britain. Is that the same thing?
Any help would be much appreciated.

citizens information says

"A system of fixed charge driving offences operates in Ireland which allows the driver of a vehicle who has been detected of committing certain offences under the Road Traffic Acts to pay a fixed charge or fine as an alternative to going to court to answer the driving offence. View a list of fixed charge only offences (pdf)."

seems clear enough, clearer than comparing with UK Law anyway

Thanks for the links. Actually, I'm an interpreter and I need to figure out how to translate the term into my native language.

can you find the equivalent penalty in your own Country? Might be easiest way to explain it, if it exists

That's the trouble, there isn't an exact equivalent, so I'm going to have to choose the closest term there is. Thanks anyway.

Or
Notification if a traffic offence
Or
Speeding ticket, parking ticket, A ticket for doing xyz
