Go look at the stats. Look at the games started and minutes played pre and post Sanchez arrival, they simply don't match the narrative that Sanchez put Martial out of the team.

Then also look at the fact that Martials inconsistent performances are perfectly consistent with the 2.5 years he spent at the club before Sanchez ever walked in the door.

Sanchez is just the latest excuse in a long line of excuses.

    Martial Pre-Sanchez / Martial Post-Sanchez / Sanchez

    Starts: 20 / 6 / 18
    Minutes: 1697 / 640 / 1540
    % of Games Started: 58.82% / 28.57% / 85.71%
    % Minutes played: 55.46% / 33.86% / 81.48%
    Minutes Per Appearance: 53.03 / 49.23 / 85.56

So after Sanchez arrived, Martial got:

51.43% drop in % of United games started
38.94% drop in % of minutes played
    7.17% drop in minutes/appearance

    Since Sanchez arrived he has:

    3 times as many starts
    2.4 times as many minutes
1.7 times as many minutes for every appearance.

(The above stats don't account for injuries, both players have missed games here and there)

Interestingly, prior to Sanchez arriving, the "inconsistent" Martial got 1 assist every 212 minutes and 1 goal every 154 minutes.

In contrast, Sanchez since joining has 1 assist every 308 minutes and 1 goal every 513 minutes.

Since Sanchez joined, Martial hasn't scored and has only got 1 assist. Even taking that time into account his season totals of 260 min/assist and 212 mins/goal are superior to Sanchez. This would only happen if there was a huge drop off in playing time relative to Sanchez, which there was.

They are also far superior to Mata (670 mins/goal and 383 mins/assist).

    Martial also had a better mins/assist rate than Rashford (335 mins/assist), Lingard (442 mins/assist), and Lukaku (452 mins/assist).

His minutes/goal rate was almost identical to Rashford and Lingard (206 and 204 mins/goal respectively) and unsurprisingly, significantly less than Lukaku (151 mins/goal).

Surprisingly, Lukaku's scoring rate for the season of 151 mins/goal is only marginally better than Martial's pre-Sanchez scoring rate of 154 mins/goal. Quite impressive considering Martial mainly played left wing whilst Lukaku played up top.

Rashford, Lingard, Lukaku and Mata all played a minimum of 300 minutes (or 3.3 matches) more than Martial over the course of the season.

Hope all is well in the thread anyway. Not great news about Martial, not surprising either.

Sanchez' arrival didn't help Martial's mentality, but Martial has been his own worst enemy overall. His 2nd season attitude was entirely his own doing, and I'm disappointed in how his form fell off a cliff in the last half of his 3rd season.

He has gotten chances since Sanchez came in, and completely failed to make anything of them.

Couple that with some off-pitch stuff in his 2nd season, and I've come to doubt that his attitude and character are what we need around the club.

That said, I would like him to give it a go for one more season at United though. Just to be sure.

It's a nice sentiment but not one Jose has the luxury to indulge next season

He NEEDS a proper title push next season and so we can't afford to take the risk, again, of players coming good. That's the sort of luxury you can afford if you are content with top four or content with developing kids, but next season is all about winning a trophy for Jose and the club now.

So at that point, like or not, the priority has to been players most likely to produce the goods, not players we hope will finally come good :/

Yet thre is a very good chance we are going to start next season with young/Shaw at left back and Valencia at right back. Jose it taking huge risks with the first 11, imo.

As I see it, with Martial, is that he simply doesn't fit into the tactics Jose wants.

He isn't a big strong target man - so he has no chance of taking the number 9 spot off Lukaku.

Jose isn't going to play Martial in a proper attacking role - so Martial should be looking to leave and play somewhere that will see him in that role, imo.

I fear the same will soon be said of Rashford.

I'm not enthralled with the idea of Young/Shaw.

Though for peace of mind, I'm choosing to believe Castle when he says we are sniffing round Sandro. So I'm not going to panic bout that one till later in the summer. I'm hoping hat we will sin a LB by the end of the window.

Martial played 456 minutes in his 7 games prior to Sanchez joining and 295 in his 7 games after. That's a difference of 161 minutes. In the 7 games prior to Sanchez joining Martial got 3 goals and 2 assists.

Sanchez played 573 minutes in his 7 games after joining and got 1 goal and 2 assists.

Are you counting the games Martial wasn't selected in as part of the 7? Nice way to pad out and cover his awful performances.

No I'm counting the minutes in the 7 games in which he made an appearance.

No covering up or padding out on my part, I presented numbers for the entire season. If I wanted to "cover up and pad out" I'd do what you did and pick a completely arbitrary number of games like 7.

Hmm I got very different from TransferMarkt.

    This Season

Martials 7 Games (immediately before Sanchez (mid December - January)

    5(2) appearances 3 goals 1 assist 419 minutes

Martials last 7 PL Games (from February post Sanchez arrival)

    4(3) appearances 0 goals 1 assist 405 minutes

Mind you I was only looking at Premier League games. Where his minutes clearly weren't affected ( -14 mins) but his goals withered away.

Hardly arbitrary when you keep insisting Sanchez is affecting him. Martial only played 7 games after the January window closed (ie. Sanchez was here) so not a mystery to look at those games since thats where you claim the problem started.

Martial didn't have reduced minutes in the league but scored 3 less goals over the same number of games.

Martial played in 8 PL games after Sanchez arrived.
