I just finished The Staircase after starting it yesterday. Found it utterly compelling. A fantastic documentary. Never could get into Making a murderer or the Jinx but this had me gripped from the get go.

Like Peterson said he always thought, to paraphrase, if someone is arrested then they're guilty. Thats how I felt for the first few episodes. Then I kept watching.

    10/10

I think The Staircase is a brilliant watch, but Making a Murderer is the more compelling of the Two shows for me.

Yeah, Netflix do this all the time; whatever contract they sign with the original creator, Netflix get the rights to slap 'Netflix Original' on it, even if it couldn't be further from the truth. It's actually incredibly common; about half the shows in my currently-watching list are these sorts of 'Netflix Original' content.

In fairness to Netflix's claims to original programming, I never would have watched The Expanse if I'd known it was produced for SyFy.
They make such cheap, schlocky crap that I wouldn't have given it a chance. I now know that it's produced by Alcon and have read six of the books, and am so committed that if it was on ISIS.com I'd watch it.

More than a couple of shows which are made by one streaming service but shown in other countries as a competitors "original".

Watched "Pedal the World" last night and really enjoyed it. The film-making is quite amateur stuff and it takes a while to find itself but it's one of the most authentic "journey of a lifetime" documentaries I've seen. When I watch Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman off on their adventures, I'm a little jealous of them but understand that the time and money required to do those trips is way beyond the average mortal. Then you see this German kid just head off on his bicycle and realise just how do-able some of those adventures are for a young person on a limited budget.

Does Fauda get way better further in?

I've heard people going on about it, but I finished episode 2 last night and it's not doing it for me at all - thinking of giving up on it.

Is Fauda even a balanced show? I had intended to watch it but then realised it's an Israeli show based based around the Israeli/Palestine tensions. Figured it would be fairly pro Israel, or does it not really get into it in that way?

I'd have trouble watching that, no matter how even handed it purported to be.

Unless it shows a heavily armed and fortified troop of soldiers picking off unarmed (or at worst stone-throwing) protesters for fun, then it's airbrushing at best, and in any case, is in poor taste given recent events.

Watching White Gold, and with one episode to go and I've actually been enjoying it! Basically an 80's Inbetweeners (Jay and Simon star) with a smarmy lead breaking the 4th wall!

Just had a quick google and have seen all the stories about the lead Ed Westwick and well.....feck! It doesn't make for great reading! Not really appropriate to the thread but I'd been hoping to find out about a second season and it's looking unlikely for now. Not sure they could recast the actor? Feel uncomfortable saying it but he plays it well.

You realise, after watching a few episodes, that the Jews and Palestinians are very similar. Probably why they hate each other so much.

The ball however is very much in Israel’s court when it comes to intelligence and technology.

True, but season 2 does outline some clever strategies used by Hamas that outwit technological manoeuvres.

The heartache and loss endured by both sides was fairly depicted imo.

Whether one feels it was biased or not ( debatable) ... it is a good show and offers escapism from reality, which is why I watch film.
If it was a documentary and I had a passionate point of view about the political situation, I would find holes i'm sure..
but for my needs, it was just right.

Kaling is a good writer. What 80’s tv show does this remind you of?

Wow, just read up there when you said it.
I watched all six and wasn’t really into it. It had its funny moments and decent music, but not one likable character in it and the lead is especially horrible. If a season 2 does get made I think I’ll pass.

Given up on staircase after 2 episodes
Just don’t get the appeal of it
Found it boring and can’t commit to another 11 episodes
